Rooney Reveals Tactic Edge

Wayne Rooney reveals tactic that gave Manchester United derby edge

Captain Wayne Rooney has revealed that manager Louis van Gaal and his management team had identified that some of Manuel Pellegrini’s engine room were not top grade when it came to putting in a shift chasing opponents.

“We know some City players are not the best at tracking back and defending and tracking runners and we felt we could make them pay for that and we did," said Rooney.

“We have got players who can score goals from midfield and to be honest we felt that was going to win us the game and it was proved to be."

He also praises Marouane Fellaini in so many paragraphs...

He is getting used in the right way. He is a handful for defenders to mark. We like to play out from the back and if teams are pressing us then we have him as an option," says Rooney.

“He is probably the best in world football at bringing the ball down and getting us out of that pressure and further up the pitch. He is being used in the right way by the manager and he is repaying the manager with goals and good performances.

“Last year was awful for him but in fairness he kept his head down worked hard and come through that tough period. He is showing now what he did at Everton and why Manchester United bought him. He is a quality player. He is a different option for us. It is starting to show on the pitch.

“It was tough for him but he had the whole team’s support. We knew he was working hard and it wasn’t just him struggling last season a lot of us were. He was the one who took most of the blame for it. It was hard for him. Thankfully the manager has shown faith in him.

“He is big and he is strong and always a goal threat which he is showing now. He is awkward to mark. It is great for him and we hope it continues."

Furthermore, Rooney talks about the LVG philosophy...

“We said earlier on in the season that we were working on things and it was going to take time. It is starting to show now the training we have been putting in," added Rooney.

“We could see in training session the quality we were showing and it was a case of getting that into the games. We are starting to show what we can do. It is a big test for us at Chelsea. But we are confident. We are in a good run of form and have beaten some good teams. They are top of the league and are in a very commanding position. We just have to try and win our games and finish as high as we can.

“We are still a work in progress. We are still learning."

he looked offside in real time
looked offside on the replay
everyone bar one or two people on the matchday thread thought he was off

if some new angle showing him on came out later then fair enough, but that's not at all what it looked like during the match to everyone watching

Hard to believe the panel of matchday experts down at the local got it wrong but there you go.

Wouldn't have wasted your time, he'll still say he was offside, the delusion of some of these ABUs knows no bounds. Just wish we still hadn't already played Liverpool, reckon we could put 5 or 6 past them on current form.

AN ARM CAN'T BE OFFSIDE

But the two goals ruled out for offside were balanced by Kompany getting sent off, so the game ended 4-2 anyway.

Didn't think 'The Kaisers' bloke would hang around here too long once faced with facts/truth.

I've got no idea what MNF is but fair enough

Mata was still miles off

Close call and ref/lino were right not to flag if unsure, but looking at those two stills, has Young already struck the ball, or is he about to strike it?

and is it CGI or actual camera?

If the lino had done his job properly in the 1st half and recommended a red card for Kompany (seeing that he had a far better angle than Clattenberg), then it might not have been as close as 4-2.

Fair play all of us have natural biases, i get caught with them often.

MNF is Monday Night Football with Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville doing analysis of games. This bit was Carragher going over all the goals in the game.

It is a CGI thing but if you find a video of the show online you'll see it transition from real footage to the CGI and back. He had definitely already struck the ball by that point, again if you watch it you'll see.
