Steven Gerrard

Hi folks,

Genuine question. How do you think Liverpool (and in particular) Rodgers have handled the Gerrard situation this season?

There’s no doubt that he will go down in history as one of Liverpool’s and the Premier Leagues best ever midfielders. However his performances and influence in the last year/year and a half have dropped, which is understandable considering his age. A lot has been made of the fact that Gerrard was supposedly willing to sign a new contract but Liverpool’s offer didn’t meet his expectations. There was also the rumours of a breakdown in the relationship between Rodgers and Gerrard

Do you think Rodgers wants him gone so the club can move on or would he have preferred to keep him? Should Liverpool have made more of an effort to keep him? As good as he’s been, do you think the time was right for him to move on?

Wild Rover has plenty of history. A known wum.

If by WUM you mean I have disagreed with some Liverpool supporters during debates on football issues then yeah, I'm guess I'm a WUM.

What on earth was I thinking...having a debate on a debating forum

Or perhaps (and more likely) you've decided to label me a WUM because I dared criticise your club, manager or players once?

----------------------------------------------------------------------
I would suggest that you have been labeled a WUM because 99% of your comments are related to teams other than Blackburn Rovers FC - and most of them are argumentative.

There have been only four posts on your own clubs board since January 2015. So one would have to question your reasons for continuing to keep a profile or presence on this site.

I guess you have no home to go to. But as a hobo, maybe adopting a more pleasant attitude, would yield more positive responses from people.

As it stands Wild Rover, you are something of a joke figure on most of the boards.

It's very similar to the situation with cara, like cara Gerrard just wouldnt be able to sit in the bench at liverpool he needs to be playing. He knows, as confirmed by the manager that his playing time will be restricted and he is not a guaranteed starter.

He was offered another year with these conditions but just couldn't see himself being happy not playing so decided to move to a club where he is guaranteed games.

Don't really see anything more then that, had gerrard not announced his intention to go to la every press conference would have been about his contract situation doing neither hin or the club any good.

So best thing to do, once he'd made his decision was too announce his intention and now we don't hear anything more on it after the initial, way OTT, gushing over him, it was like he had died for a few days after the announcement was made.

There will always be other mitigating factors and people may read into them more then they should but the above is the crux of it.

Nice try to cause some controversy but it is not happening here today

Controversy?Steady on lad. There's more controversial things going on in the world today than a Blackburn fan writing an article about Steven Gerrard.

I have two mates who are Liverpool fans and are divided on the issue. One believes Gerrard is being 'forced' out the other doesn't. My question was genuine. Apologies if I've offended anyone. Would love to know what I've said that's so offensive though

If you've offended anyone by writing what is a pretty reasonable article, they ought not be on a site like this with such a sensitive disposition.

I can't see anyone offended on here??

Sometimes there just isn't an issue and things really are as simple as they seem.

Gerrard wanted more playing time that BR could offer so he picked up a nice little pension plan in LA. Good for him, he's only got a couple more years left and he might as well spend them on the pitch rather than the bench.

I know a lot of Liverpool fans (obviously) and can honestly say I don't know one that feels Gerrard is being forced out or mistreated. Wild Rover - your friend is in the vast minority from what I can see.

As for a feud between Gerrard and Rodgers, there just seems to be no basis for this. They've both gone out of their way to praise the other on numerous occasions and apparently that's good enough to be suspicious of a feud. There is literally no way to win with some people.

I think Stevie and the Liverpool management team have got this spot on.

If SAF had done the same with Giggs and Scholes United may never have been in the state they have been in for the last couple of years.
