What straws Simon, I think the 2 are primarily different, have never heard of boxing being one of the main disciplines of MMA either, thought it was a lot more grapple based.

Read the story about Inoki and Ali if you don't know it, is fascinating especially with the politics surrounding the whole thing (Ali thought it would be predertimed, Inoki wanted a fair Grapple, Ali's people got involved and told Inoki if he touched him they'd get him so Inoki lay on the floor and kicked him for however many rounds it was )

Agreed derby 100% With your 2nd 2 paragraphs. There are lots of ex ams/pros who turn to mma, cos lets be honest thats where the money is for someone who wont make top 5 in boxing, and ofc there is much more money there then pro wrestling/karate/judo etc so the draw of mma will be huge

The problem I have with a lot of these statements (and I find the ones by boxers stating they'd beat x,y or z in MMA) is they come across as if it's being said in a playground.

Plus this 'rivalry' between MMA and boxing fans is also daft, enjoy the sport your following instead of trying to find fault with someone elses.

So true, but this is what we see in both sports in the build up to big fights, people apparently enjoy it

Can take it or leave it, as long as each competitor does there best then I'm generally happy with spending my time watching it

An ME A fighter would destroy a boxer of the same weight class. Seems to me some people want to avoid the comparison.
