evening all
I see from some knee jerking that's going on that apparently the solutions to our problems are Rodgers out, owners out etc. well I see things with a smidgeon of realism...
there is a combi of probs this year really and they stem from the project that Rodgers embarked on wen he joined. the main issue is that we OVERACHEIVED last season. meaning fan expectations this season were completely unrealistic this season considering our squad size and quality in places
1. we HAD to bulk up the squad numbers this year to return to Europe, after the clearout of the previous transfer windows to get old and overpaid players out left us rather light on quantity.
2. we have a ridiculously young squad. average age is like 23/24!! they will learn together
3. some players have taken a long time to settle at a larger club(lovren, lallana, markovich) next season will be diff as they'll have whole preseason to be used to the 2/3 systems Rodgers uses.(surely we can look at the hendo example to see what patience achieves)
4. the pure no of newbies to the system really disrupted the flow of the team and system
5. quality of some signings have been disappointing
allen, borini, balo, aspas, alberto all poor. some I understand as were desperate, like balo as sanchez went to arsenal. add them to some dross we already had: Johnson, Enrique, jones, coates
Rodgers is having to clear out some bad players which imo he has done well. yes some new players haven't worked out but some were stop gaps to get us by until we can get better in (allen, borini)I firmly believe this season is transitional as Rodgers stated near the start of the season.
the large no of players needed to replace deadwood and bulk up the squad for Europe, coupled with loss of luis and studge (most of season) and the alarming decline of stevie compared to most of last season, has lead to an inevitable (but temporary) decline.
lets remember that despite the above issues this season we have still reached 2 semi finals! plus got near the top four! yeah not as good as some of us thought we wud do, but if we had gone from 7th to 5th last year, then got to 2 semi finals and near to 4th, how wud we all feel now???
this summer im thinking that 3/4 high quality first teamers signed is required. 1xCF 1 x DM 1x RWB 1x CB and a backup keeper who cud actually save a shot
lets just remember where we were when hicks and gillett were ousted and who the manager was!!!
get real pls people
a dose of realism

Borini scores his first PL against Villa in January and not started a game since. In fact he's made 3 sub appearances since. I'm not his biggest fan but he has been poorly treated just like Markovic who in has last 6 appearence has been subbed at half in 4 games.

Borini did well in that game and should have been given the chance I agree. Disagree on Markovic though, BR has shown a lot in faith in him and he's been rubbish most the season to be honest, he had 2-3 good games in January and that's it. Very dissapointing signing.

I don't see anything wrong with subbing players if they are bilge but the Borini treatment is just weird.
He was decent against Sunderland in the game before Villa as well. Missed a good chance in that game, scored in the next game, then discarded apart from in times of desperation.
I don't really get it. He isn't the long term answer but you have to make the most of what you have and we have struggled for goals all season.

My point regarding Markovic is that he plays out of position and is the managers whipping boy when things are going bad. It's humiliating for a player to be subbed at half time and they would rather come off bench than be the whipping boy. This will do his confidence no favours.
Johnson should be starting ahead of him anyway.

does anyone think Moreno would be a better right sided attacker .....
his position and his defensive play (save for that great last ditch tackle) are a bit dodgy ..but going forward he reminds me of riise a little bit .....
or am i talking ballacks

Moreno is pretty bad going forward. No end product. Just industry.

think so kash ..
I thought he looked alright ...scored a belter against spurs ..
its his positioning defensively that scares me

When Moreno goes forward I don't even get excited because he will either over hit the ball or it will fail to beat the first defender.

I see lots of ability in Moreno but his crossing has been abysmal, it often ends up with the other team countering us with Many of our player strandered up the field. He also makes costly errors of judgement at crucial times in the game.
One of the big failures this season after looking so promising against Spurs. I guess we have missed Flanno badly in that way. He was very solid.
In the end I still think Moreno could go on and be a good player for us.
