A terrible day today no way around it, Everton deserved winners and undoubtedly our worst performance of the season in my honest opinion. Was very optimistic pre-match and even after going 1 nil down, but today we were too slow and too predictable. Howard and Co. had a very comfortable afternoon.
In light of today's setback, has it changed anyone's opinion's in the type of business we need to do in the summer?
Who would you like to see come in and in what positions are we in need of upgrading and adding to? The aim has to be a title challenge next season, a club with our resources and LvG's ambition will surely challenge with the right business done in the next transfer window. For me, it isn't necessarily star-studded names, it's about getting the right players in.
Who has no future at the club? There has been a good process in getting rid of the players no longer needed and I think LvG has been pretty spot on with who he has gotten ridden of so far (Although I do believe Welbeck could've proved useful in certain matches, especially when we played two upfront, but long term I think Welbeck wasn't quite at the level of a Utd striker or would ever reach that ability).
I like the system and the possession football that LvG has gotten us playing. I'm not speaking for everyone here, but a lot of people wanted us to adopt a more cultured tactical style and this is what we are now seeing. Sometimes you get 'done' like today but I feel that with a few additions, days like today will be few and far between next season.
Its vitally important that we get players that fit his philosophy. I reckon four additions and a few sales will do us nicely and put us in a promising position for 15/16. I don't want us to sign six plus players and a mass exodus, as exciting as it is, I think four is about right to maintain some consistency. We aren't too far away from where we want to be.
A right back (Valencia has been solid in some games but for me he is a squad player), a centre back to partner Smalling (preferably someone who is 24 and above and comfortable playing from the back), a central midfielder (an all rounder would do) and a left winger/inside forward would be very welcome.
My choices would be Clyne, Otamendi, Gundogan and Depay.
I quite like the look of Griezmann at Atletico but can't see them selling, he has a wand of a left foot and he chips in with his fair share of goals, 26 so far this season I believe? Pogba is someone I would LOVE to see at Utd next season but I can't see LvG pursuing that one. Hummels also featured in my possibilities but there are question marks over his pace (we play a high line) and his form over the past 18 months. Clyne is no world beater, but he improves the home grown quota, pacey, potential to improve and I doubt whether there are any better realistic right backs on the market.
I was toying with the idea of us needing a striker, but if we continue with the 4-1-4-1/4-3-3, I would be confident going into the next campaign with Rooney, Van Persie and Chicarito for the strikers positions. Yes I feel Hernandez has a part to play here, he offers something different and is a nice option to have in reserve. I think Wilson needs a loan move for regular first team football to see if he can transfer his impressive reserve team performances into impressive competitive football performances.
Januzaj and McNair would also benefit from loan moves as well next season.
Nani, Rafael, Evans, Lindegaard, Cleverley and Falcao should absolutely not be here next season. There's a case for Di Maria but I would like to see us give him another season, Fellaini and Mata have been proof that it sometimes takes a while to find your feet. The lad has tonnes of ability but he needs to stop playing so erratically, he needs some control to his game, and with a pre season under Van Gaal he could achieve this and be a key player come 2015/16.
This season has been a mixed ride, we have looked awful in parts, in particular the opening few games, and we have looked super in others. I have always had faith in Van Gaal because he seems like a real strong character with the ability to get us back on track. I'm looking forward to seeing this season out, hopefully with a top four finish, and seeing what the summer will bring.
Despite a disappointing day, long term I think we are in a promising position to progress even further.
Summer In's and Out's.

There are reports that we've watched Jackson Martinez of Porto for the past few weeks.

I like Martinez but not sure I would want to spend big money on a striker who turns 29 in October.
We regularly have scouts watching the big three in Portugal, including today's game between Benfica and Porto.

Very true.
I'm trying to think of strikers who are good enough for a top team while still being relatively young and yet to reach their full potential/peak.Cant think of many.

I like Lukaku. Only 21 but scored over 100 career goals including a few against us. Knows the PL well and already lives in the general area.
Good at holding the ball up and also running the channels. Strong as an ox too.

I can't think of many that would be realistic.
I've not seen too much of Lacazette myself but he did mention in an interview that if Lyon secure CL football, he'd stay for another season because it's his hometown club so he may not even be an option as some hope.
I always look back to 2012 when we signed RvP. I'll be forever grateful to him for what he did in his first season but I wish we'd planned more for the long term and tried to lure Lewandowski from Dortmund.
We'd be in a much better position now.

Kicker said that there is no offer for Gündogan. Kicker is the most reliable source in Germany.

I've read that on Twitter this morning, they reckon the agreement may be between Gundogan and Utd rather than Dortmund, so the deal may happen but Bayern Munich and Arsenal are also interested

I've been trying to follow the Gundogan situation as best I can over the last couple of days but it's difficult to know what's going on and who to believe because there have been so many conflicting reports from what are supposed to be reliable sources in Germany.
The latest though seems to be as follows:
Der Westen who first reported that an agreement was in place, have tonight reiterated those claims, which is bold considering Watzke and Zorc both publicly denied that anything was going on yesterday, although I wouldn't expect them to do anything different.
Here's their latest claim: http://www.derwesten.de/sport/bvb-dementiert-guendogan-wechsel-zu-manchester-united-id10607400.html
It's also believed that Gundogan has been given permission by Dortmund to negotiate any deal himself/through representatives as long as it falls in line with certain price requirements set by Dortmund. This is what Raphael Honigstein basically said yesterday.
So if a deal has been agreed, it could well be between the club and the player's camp.
