End of Season Awards 14/15

With so much still to play for this season I find it a little hard to make an overall judgement of the season as a whole, but the voting is now open for fans to vote for their favourites.
Fan vote is open for the following:

Young Player of the year (under-23)

Goal of the year

Player of the year

So who has got your vote and why?

On top of those what is your favourite on the following:

Team performance of the season
Most improved player
Signing of the season

Here’s to hoping we can finish the season on a high!

Nuneaton - that is a fair point and it is one that crossed my mind at the time. (Truly!)

To be honest, part of the reason for me saying Huth is simply to give him some recognition. If he'd been here in this form from the start of the season it would have been a much tougher call for player of the season. Also, with regards to the signing, Cambiasso's signature was incredibly exciting - simply because many of us couldn't quite believe it was happening (this kind of thing doesn't happen to us, and he turns out to be a genuine bloke as well). But Huth's signing had a more immediate impact and the team's record with him in the side is incredible. And this for a player seemingly plucked out of the air on transfer deadline day.

But no, I wouldn't argue with anyone who put Cambiasso as signing of the season as there's a lot of logic there and I can't remember ever being as excited about a new player.

Young player of the year: Jeffrey Schlupp.
I have had a bit of a love/hate relationship with JS, but then I suppose that’s not surprising because he can be brilliant or woeful over the course of just one game. It was difficult to see why he should be a regular starter early in the season and in which position he could best improve the team. I’ve gone from that to desperately hoping that he’d be fit for the Newcastle game when he was injured. That says it all really.

Goal of the year: Vardy, West Brom.
For me it’s Vardy’s goal versus West Brom. That’s not necessarily because it was such a great goal, although those type of finishes are sometimes very hard as opposed to others that fly in from 30 yards. It was more the way it made me feel when he scored. I had genuine emotion to the point where I had tears in my eyes and it was the first time since we hit bottom that I actually thought staying up was a possibility.

Player of the year: Esteban Cambiasso
Others have contributed more in short bursts of form, but over the whole season it’s difficult to look beyond him.

Team performance of the season: LCFC 5, MUFC 3
That performance and result will live long in the memory whether, or not, we stay up. If we do win a must win game in the next three to confirm our place in the PL then I guess that could top it.

Most improved player: Jeffrey Schlupp
I’m going for JS again as he’s currently reaching levels I didn’t think that he was capable of. Vardy gets a notable mention, but he’s now doing what he did in the Championship last season after finding it difficult to adjust. Another honorable mention goes to Kasper who is presently silencing a few critics after his early season form.

Signing of the season: Robert Huth
At the risk of Nuneaton calling me illogical I would have to agree with DM. My reasoning is that Cambiasso has performed over the whole of the season (player of the year) and a lot was probably expected of him. RH was a January loan signing and looked like a squad signing when he came in, but has actually added a huge amount to our performances defensively (shrewd and best signing).

My criticism of Cambiasso signing was not his proven skill- but his fitness and capacity to succeed in a promoted team in a league renowned for its physical demands.

By December when we had the Pearson "sacking" we had accumulated 10 points and Cambiasso had acquired 50% of game time.........

Both he and King have stated how his impact was really felt after he had adjusted to the pace of Premiership football and is integral to the relative success since New Year - which I agree with... plus the Albrighton/ Wasilewski affect

So presumably he warrants "player of the half -year"!!

Agree with comments on Schlupp, Vardy Huth etc

Agree that Kaspers playing well but will add he's playing behind a brick wall now.
last game i even fancied my chances with half an hour between Newcastle shots that would of given me enough time to get up offf the deck between diving saves.
Every one i meet loves Cambiaso hes not come for the cash or fading glory hes doing the job we have been missing since Neil Lennon

The biggest testament to Cambiasso's character is the way he was fighting his hardest and working his hardest with and for the team when we were 7 points off safety and even most of us - the club's own fans - had written them off.

Only hindsight shows it for certain, but he's come here because he wanted to play in the Premier League before he retired, and we were the enthusiastic club that provided that opportunity and told him repeatedly that he was very much wanted here after he'd been unceremoniously dumped like a Lib Dem out of an election from Inter Milan. Whatever happens over the next few games, history will show that he came for the right reasons and gave it his all. Granted, the wages help - but he could have easily got more in another league if that was his primary motivation.

The fact that it's Leicester City that he's joined is nothing more than right place, right time for us. But I think you have to respect a man who loves and respects the game so much as to do what he's done this year.

Absolutely agree Dunge -he has been totally dedicated to giving his best and earning his wages...... just naturally it took him a while to adjust - not a criticism of him -only he was not given more support with other signings

Sorry Nev.

I guess it's so rare for us to find common ground that it was worth repeating.

It looks like fitness to me. Late start with training with the squad resulting in it taking half a season to get fully up to speed.

It may be illogical but I understand where you guys are coming from. For me, our BFG is definitely first on the shopping list this Summer if we stay up.
