Lots of people have said that Fellaini isnt a typical Man Utd type player. Having him in the squad is a useful asset but if its our plan A then it means we're likely to play a more direct style of play than in the past.
However he still produces the goods in terms of coming up with the odd crucial goal.
I ask you, whats more important?
1) Playing Fellaini as he delivers occasional crucial goals but to the detriment of the overall style of play we like Man Utd to adopt
or
2) Put another player in his spot who fits the style of play of United better and have him as "Plan B".

The Fellaini Conundrum

Option 2.
Fellaini won't be allowed to use his physique in Europe and I don't think it's a sustainable style of play if we want to win things.

After the West Ham game we stopped the long ball routine. It would have worked against West Brom but fans did not want it.
Fellaini has done very well this season but to progress as a club we need someone with a lot more ability on the ball in that position

He is the best #10 for what he offers us. A physicality up front who presses the opposition defence back allowing room for mata and herrera to operate in.
There is a reason lvg plays him there. Its not for shitts and giggles.

Tbf, in the last two months even with Fellaini in the side we have been playing the ball on the floor then in the air.

This.
Fellaini's contribution to our purple patch (Spurs, Liverpool, City) wasn't just or even primarily as a target man to whom we could lump forward the ball and snatch a goal. In addition to being a genuine aerial threat in the box, he excelled in working those triangles with Young and Blind, and his height and power gave us some variety in that it possible to quickly bring bring that trident into play with a more direct ball.

Even on Saturday I don't remember playing one long ball to him, he was joining our attack by passing the ball on the floor and players doing the same to him. Young crossed a ball into him for the goal, and a cross isn't considered a hoof.

Fellaini is a squad player and nothing more. He should be scoring those crucial goals coming off of the bench in the last 15 minutes.
It's a travesty that Mata is shunned out wide, even though he has played well in that position, Mata is world class as a number 10.
Young, Fellaini and Valencia should be squad players and should only ever enter the first team because of injuries or because we are playing in the FA cup or Micky Mouse cup.

He's a conundrum in the sense that, clearly he brings a unique set of qualities to the team and, in particular, the '#10' role.
But at the same time, his limitations with the ball at his feet and lack of guile, creativity and mobility are also an issue. Ideally we would have a first team player spearheading the midfield that has some of Fellaini's better qualities (power, physicality and goals) as well as more class and invention with the ball.
The only player I can think of in that mould, dare I say it, is Pogba.
