Liverpool legends hypocrisy

lately in the media all we've been hearing is how sterling is a money grabber and how he should stay at Liverpool and show loyalty to the club, but at the same time they will all tell you how benteke should go to Liverpool and 'further his career' and basically tapping him up in the media, but there is only one player who is in a final and who's club look to be going forward and It's not sterlings.

Article's spot on. What Barnes and others imply is that L'pool is a great club and it's a wonderful opportunity for Benteke to go there. And L'pool is a great club and Sterling is an ungrateful misguided kid who should listen to his betters, buckle down and be grateful he's been offered a new contract.

Fact. Liverpool are in a mess. One of the reasons they are in a mess is because they've a poor idea of how to handle players. There was trouble over Henderson's contract, they lost Gerrard when they didn't need to, and they haven't a clue how to manage Sterling. They haven't won anything for 9 years, and that's not about to change, partly because of the attitude. They aren't an attractive club for top players.

The only thing which will help Liverpool is to stop living on the myths of the past, and put some effort into understanding the modern world. Do that and they might have something to build on.

Spot on. It would help Liverpool, and be a lot less annoying for every one else, if the media (especially the BBC) stopped promoting these myths. For example, why would Benteke want to go there - Liverpool's chances of Europa League next season are hardly any better than Villa's. If a Champions League team comes in for him then he will be off.

so therefore he would be going there to get more money? aren't you guys angry at sterling for supposedly doing exactly the same thing? It's ok if a player comes to Liverpool to get more money but not if he leaves Liverpool to get more money?

We'd pay him more.

Wouldn't be so sure about that, especially if Villa have new owners.

I think we'd break the bank to keep him. However, even if we pay him say £100K then it's not as expensive as it seems.

For a start, It wouldn't be for long. Next year he'd be looking for Champions League football, if all goes well, and who would blame him. So pay him a mega sum for one year, does him a lot of good, does us a lot of good, win win all round.

And if the impossible happens and we get Champions League football at the end of the coming season, he just might stay. Don't bank on it though.

With the new TV money coming in, salaries are going to soar. So in a way what looks expensive just now may look quite average at the end of the season.
