Managerial Firings

When one looks at what goes on elsewhere, a normal person would think "Why is PD still at Doncaster?"

I know there have been many exits, especially for managers of regulated teams, but Nigel Clough has not done badly at the Blades. Play-offs and the semi-final of the League Cup (the FA Cup last Year). I think most fans would be happy if we had done that this year.

Steve McClaren has departed Derby who had a very good season until when it mattered - a more reasonable reason for a firing.

Of course, winning the Champions League last year obviously does not count - Ancelotti's departure from Real Madrid.

Who would be a football manager anywhere else than Doncaster Rovers?

The "Party Line", as propagated by PD supporters and the Board, is that he has never had the benefit of a settled preparatory "pre-season" which he has convinced those who keep him in his position is essential to perform his duties successfully.

I recently read what the Oldham chairman said when he left there and it was clear, what is a apparent in all PD's personal relationships, he really liked the man.

He is very intelligent and communicates far better than most in his profession. Not only does this enable him to "explain" failure, it also generates the belief that someone with this ability ought to be able to do the job.

If football was less demanding of results perhaps you would be prepared to give him this amount of time, but as it is he must be pushing for the record of the least successful manager who has remained in his job the longest.

It is highly probable that you there are managers currently unemployed who could do a better job and it might not be too difficult to find one. DRFC is more important than Paul Dickov's career development.

Can someone explain to me how you learn more about your players in 6 weeks of pre season playing a few friendlies, then playing 46 games over 10 months.

I'm glad there's no takeover so he has no excuses this time. Tick Tock.

I think there are many who would ask, "How is PD still in a job". I think it is obvious at many clubs he would not be, but for some reason our owners seem to believe he is the answer to their prayers.

The problem for us supporters is just that, they have the money and they make the decisions. Unfortunately it leaves us with two choices, give up the team we love, or grin and bear it.

As very few of us would do the former, we have to accept the latter and hope THEY come to their senses eventually, or sell out to someone else.

Dickov has taken us back ten years.
He should have been dismissed at the end of last season when we were relegated due to him only getting a solitary point from the last 21.

How he is still in a job baffles me.

Just for information, thought you might be interested in this. The Chicago Bulls basketball team have just sacked their head coach after 5 years in charge and with a 64.7% winning record.

They won 255 and lost 139 games over that period. They reached the playoffs every year and played games in those playoffs as well as the 82 games per year There are no draws to blind the issue.

The point is how can Dickov with his record not be given the same consequence. Shows the difference when you have people in charge who know the game.

They are saying that in those five years they should have won the final of the play offs and that what he did was not good enough for them.

An underlying principle which ought to govern owners is that they should reflect the reasonable ambitions of the fans of the sports team that they own. On a commercial level they should be sensitive to the quality of the product that is demanded by the customers.

Many people preferred the current owners to the potential Irish consortium who one assumes would never have been bewitched by Dickov; I doubt whether even JR would have kept him on this long, given his impatience with SOD. And of course that really grates on those of us who could see that Dickov could never emulate SOD however long they gave him.

No, our present owners have failed us miserably with this man and his pathetic incompetent management team which Oldham dismissed before they finally got rid of Dickov himself. Effectively he has now admitted how badly he has got it wrong in the past by deciding that he needs a different type of player - more in the Keegan, Butler type of mould - to provide the backbone to the 2015-16 team.

It's a pleasure to have you back Donaldo, I love reading your posts. So well put together and with plenty of facts to back your point.

There's something that just doesn't add up for me. They have no interest in the football team, compared to the other teams in "club Doncaster ". That shows to me they have another reason why they haven't sold up yet. Last I heard they were worth over half a billion yet won't put anything in the pot to get us back into the championship. Brentford in the playoffs, Bournemouth up as champions, yet it was us who went up as champions from this league.......

Epic fail by the board, they were saying on sky the other day just before the Boro/Norwich game it's the biggest game worldwide as the winner will get around £120 million.

We need things to change this season as a bad start could be the sign of things to come. Surely its not going to be as bad as what we're all dreading.

At least we have three decent friendlies to look forward to. Sunderland, Wolves and Nottingham Forest all at home.
