So now it has come out that FIFA paid Ireland Football 5million euros to prevent them suing them over the Henry handball vs France in the 2009 World Cup play-off.
I think this is just insane. I mean, first and foremost sure it was a bad decision and the goal shouldn't have stood. Saying that, surely there is absolutely no way Ireland Football could win a case against Fifa for a decision in a football match which unless evidence was found for match fixing was completely down to the match day officials.
With this in mind, what the hell were Fifa thinking paying off Ireland Football 5 million euros when surely they could spend a fraction of this on a lawyer to represent them in what seems to be a nothing case against them. There must be more to this because this story just doesn't make sense to me.

Definitely a hand ball, but was so open that I can't believe Henry would ruin his career by openly cheating....can't believe it was done deliberately in as much...But that it wasn't called is a different matter... yes, and of course France is a much bigger attraction (in football) than Ireland.

so, not only were the hosts of world cups manipukated, the teams who took part was also manipulated.
what is there stopping similar shenanigans in the tournaments themselves?
I think every single referee decision in the history of world cup (qualifiers and final tournaments games) needs to be reviewed....immediately for transparancy
for example, Italy were robbed in 1090, 1974, 1978, 1990, 1994, 2002, 2010 and 2014
we shud have up to 8 more stars on the badge

Slightly melodramatic forza, even for you.
But there could be a case at looking at the 2002 WC, when host South Korea seemed to benefit from favourable decisions to say the least.

Where is our compensation for the goal that never was against Germany?

So this is what's known as an out of court settlement and it is perfectly legal.
The analogy would be if I hit you with my car and then said "I'll settle this right now for 100k" and you agreed.
It would seem that the 5m went into the FAI and not someone's pocket.
The reason it was never mentioned until now is because there must have been some confidentiality agreement as part of the settlement.

Proves how many members of FIFA allowed this to happen and didnt say a word. Every organisation is the same
