DDG not going anywhere ...?

Some reports that Real Madrid and De Gea stunned that United won't do business and that he is not for sale. If they are indeed prepared to let him run down his contract and play another season then that would be amazing.
Kudos if so and it would indeed be brave to keep a possibly unhappy and angry player for another season.
It would also tell Madrid where to go as they always seem to be calling the tune with us. Interesting now to see what develops. Maybe Ed just trying to get a better bargaining position for one of their players or a better price ?

As busby said, begovic has had a poor season.
Although I think it is partly bcos he has had his head turned.

If we have to lose out on a 20mil transfer fee for Madrid in order to send a msg to them and the rest of the football world that we would not be bullied it will be worth every penny IMO.

I wanted us to cash in on Ddg but now with him running down his contract and us being minted I would prefer us to keep him one more season and show people we won't be shafted anymore.

We can't realistically sign a long term replacement as well as keeping him here. If we keep him for the sake of trying to show we won't be shafted, we will have to replace him next year and going about business that way won't do any good for the team considering DDG may well be a bit peed off.

We need to think of the club and be sensible yes but we also need to be realistic and remember we are dealing with people, not pixels on a computer game. DDG has kept quiet and gone about this very well.

I really do think we will grant him his move, provided we can replace him.

Fans talk about letting players rot in the reserves or whatever as much as they talk about play swap deals. Does anyone really think we're going to refuse to sign a replacement, tell DDG that he isn't moving because we don't want to get shafted anymore and he is to shut up and perform or be dropped/something similar.

That is nonsense, could upset the dressing room and also prevent other players signing in future

It will also send a message to people wanting to join the club.

But you wouldn't mind us spending £100m on Bale

I meant it would be a good thing. Players seem to think they've a right to forget they signed a contract when madrid come calling.

Yeah, but we gain a top player. We get rid of DDG whether it's for £20 million or nothing and either way we lose a top player.

I really don't care about the clubs money. It's not mine and i'm sure with these huge sponsorship deals we have a lot of it. All I care about is whether or not we have good players. Whatever it costs, Bale would be brilliant for us. So would keeping DDG for another season.

I expect Lloris to come in as a replacement. He wants CL football and has a buy out clause allegedly.

Except he doesn't.

Not read all the responses yet so apologise if it's been mentioned before.

Let's say we refuse to sell DDG and let his contract run down - what if his performances drop due to not being happy at being refused a move to Madrid. That is also a big risk to consider.

He may or may not have stayed longer than he wished to but his performances up until his last match for us has been fantastic mostly. The big question would be can he retain his top form for another year knowing he has his big move chance for Madrid gone for the foreseeable future?
