Rooney's 150th United Goal

Wayne Rooney has set himself a target - to chase down Sir Bobby Charlton's goals record for United.

The red-hot striker scored a hat-trick against Arsenal with his opener making it 150 for the Reds, still a long way behind the incredible 249 mark set by the legendary Sir Bobby.

"Funnily enough, I was aware I was one away from 150 before the game," Rooney told MUTV. "I spoke to a few of the players and asked how many Sir Bobby had and Giggsy said I was 100 or so off.

"It's a target for me, to try and do that. Hopefully, in the next few years, I can do it."

The former Everton attacker admits he enjoys special moments against Arsenal after putting the Gunners to the sword again on Sunday.

"A lot of my milestone goals have come against Arsenal," he admitted to Sky Sports. "My first-ever goal for Everton, first Premier League goal for United, 100th Barclays Premier League goal for United and now 150th, all against Arsenal, so it’s obviously a great feeling. The performance today was incredible and we fully deserved the result we got, I thought.

"I think whether they had their full squad out or not, we were going to have a go at them, play and score goals. They had a few players out but take nothing away from our performance, it was brilliant.

"Obviously it was a good result for Man City [at Spurs], a good win, but we had to concentrate on ourselves today and I don’t think anyone else will beat Arsenal 8-2 this season."

Rooney really said "Barclays Premier League"? Yeah right - those Barclay boys really make sure their shills get their plugs in everywhere, don't they!

This time last year all the ABU's were in 7th Heaven as they were crowing about the "demise" of Rooney. SAF must hate the World Cup; after every one he has to pick up the shattered pieces of players who have been torn apart during the competition; Becks, Neville, CR7, Rooney, Evra... is it any surprise that he likes to see his players retire from International football as soon as they can?

You cynic, Adam. Rooney did intend utter the Barclays Premier League, free from coercion or influence. Not only does he excel against Arsenal, has a decent mop of hair growing but he's quite a smart lad.

Rooney seems less at odds with the world these days. Because of the happy medium, he can just enjoy his football. I would say this Wayne Rooney is like the one that burst on the scene at Everton but this time at lot more mature to add to that talent.

Like you I just hope and pray the curse that is England national team does not undo all that is good in Rooney's game.

In fact he did not say any such thing, and other sources quote that same interview WITHOUT the word "Barclays".
I find it truly disgusting that some media sources are prepared to be so duplicitous and avaricious as to insert such a fabrication into a quote in that manner.

p.s. A cynic is just an optimist's description of a realist!

10 out of 10 for being a pedant over a non issue. The manutd.com journalist may have assumed Rooney stated 'Barclays' but on closer inspection he merely says premier league so technically he was misquoted

The rest of the transcript of the tv interview is accurate.
United do not gain for mentioning the league sponsor nor do they lose out through an omission, however, the journalist was technically giving the true and correct title of the league , even if it was a slight misquote. No major issues.

Make sure your cynicism is consistent with other forms of corporate sponsorship too.
