I for one am really happy to hear that Spurs, Chelsea, Liverpool and West Ham are all either building or moving into larger stadiums.
I actually believe it will benefit Arsenal and United supporters (and possibly others) too.
With the huge size of the Premier League brand of today, increasing the combined capacity of stadia particularly in London is paramount to all fans at the top clubs.
At Arsenal for instance it's currently incredibly difficult to get tickets and as we all know it's incredibly expensive too. With Chelsea, Spurs and West Ham all having increased capacity I really hope/believe this will make it easier for genuine fans of all our clubs to get tickets.
Having seen my club (Arsenal) go through a Stadium move I also really hope other clubs consider this when building a new stadium:
Aim to find a way to protect their core supporters and ensure they keep the noise and passion up. For instance, at Arsenal we lost the buzz and togetherness of the Clock end and lost a lot of atmosphere with it. The Club are doing what they can to put this right but it would have been a lot easier to have had something in place from day one.
Essentially, I hope clubs try to make the move more than just about getting bigger revenues but also giving the loyal support a better match day experience.
Also consider this - At the Emirates we have a huge amount of corporate "support" who take clients to games because our Stadium is the best and biggest in the Capital – this often prices out our genuine support.
I'm fairly certain (correct me if I'm wrong) that United have the same thing too.
What do you think, will increasing the overall stadia capacity in the areas of London and Manchester/Liverpool benefit all?
