What do you guys make of the rich dentist who paid £35k to shoot a lion, in Africa?
I'm going to put aside the fact it was a famous Lion, which was loved by many.
It’s just the principle of it, why would someone go and do it? forget a famous Lion, but any Lion? (I think he has come out and said he thought all the correct paperwork had been carried out for him to shoot the animal, and he did not know it's identity.
He seems to be a hated figure around the world.
Shouldn’t fox-hunters be publicly named and shamed like this guy was?
Also to note, many of you have visited Zoo's, whereby Lions\Tigers etc.. are caged in a tiny enclosure, so that the likes of you and I can gawp at it. OK, it’s not killing it, but it’s not much different from being whacked in a prison cell the rest of your life....
He is not the only one:

Sounds like you don't think people currently hunt illegally Jay?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I'm well aware that they do, but the fact that it's illegal and they still do it kinda proves my point that it wont make much difference...

The good thing is that this public outrage has finally shone a light on the issue. Just because the problem isn't being successfully tackled atm doesn't mean authorities should just give up.
The banning of big game hunts is the easy part. I highly doubt many of these wealthy freaks would risk hunting illegally if the repercussions were severe enough.

People will be outraged for 2-3 weeks, then find something new to direct their anger at. I highly doubt anything will change because of this incident.
I think the way it works in Zimbabwe is using quotas to stop it from severely hampering the population of the animals. Presumably that is why it is so expensive, because there is a limited amount of animals that you can get a license for.

"People will be outraged for 2-3 weeks"
I doubt it'll last that long. No-one talks about Ebola, Ukraine or Palestine, or any one of dozens of going 'previously headline situations' any more.
These days people don't care about too much but moan about, and have an opinion (informed or otherwise) on, everything.

That's just it, there's some people who even think Ebola was completely cured & finished because it stopped being reported on...
I think some people might wanna re-evaluate their opinions on the dentist - some people are agreeing with PETA that he should be killed, they want him hanged ffs. If you're on the same side as PETA, you're probably wrong.

I don't think he should be killed, but I do think he's a .
PETA are generally wrong about most things. It's a great and noble idea/cause, but like most things the nutters ruin it.

This dentist has gotten in trouble for something like this before. The consequences of his actions should be harsher this time around.
I think a prison stint should do. The internet has already ruined his business practices.

It's not even remotely the same.
He was previously in trouble for lying about the location of something that he'd shot - for which he had been punished by being put on a sort of probation that meant he couldn't hunt for a year (?). This time, he hasn't lied about the location of a shot, he's claiming that the documents he saw made him believe that the hunt was completely legal.
Completely different scenarios...

We will wait until they found out about what happened.
No way he didn't know that he was hunting an animal that is illegal to hunt. What the hell is the point of attempting to destroy the GPS tracker and luring the animal out of National Park? Of all the lions he could've killed, he happened to kill the one that's considered to be the most popular tourist attraction?
