As United fans we were rightly giddy when we signed 3 players (Darmian, Schweinsteiger, Schneiderlin) all in a few days prior to the tour. There seemed to be a huge lift around the club especially with the additional of Memphis too.
However, looking at the transfer window so far with the signings ive mentioned but the loss of RVP, Nani, Falcao and the expected losses of Di Maria, Valdes, Rafael and even De Gea, are we actually any stronger than when we started the transfer window in squad terms???
I know there is still time in the window but I’m not so sure at the moment!! I would imagine the salary bill will be looking a lot more healthy without some of these names. Surely the overall aim of a transfer window is to improve? No point in a huge overhaul if the end resulting squad is no stronger.
I think we all got excited because for years, even under Fergie, we were calling out for central midfielders and getting in two top class ones, it seemed all our dreams came true, but for me we are still weak in defence without a leader and our striking/creative options are less and potentially our goalkeeping situation is weakened. So we’ve strengthed the key midfield area but are weaker in keeping, defence and attack. It worries me that we’re resorting to playing a utility player in Blind at Centre Back. To me that’s the equivalent of Fergie using Phil Neville there! Talk that we only wanted Ramos and no one else is silly as there’s plenty of Centre Backs in world football ahead of Jones and Smalling in terms of ability and injury records.
If we don’t do more activity in the window, my expectations for this season will be to sneak into 4th again. Only hopes above that will be the youngsters; Januzaj, Periera and Lingard have real breakthrough, stand out seasons. I’m still looking forward to the season but as it currently stands my expectations are reasonably low.
Transfer window/overhaul, are we stronger?

We'll certainly be weakened by any sale of Di Maria, record signing and genuine world class talent and we're letting him go cos he's apparently not happy, aw diddums, seems players have clubs by the balls these days

Yes we are.
RVP, Falcao and ADM were not very good last season were they?
