Levy and perceptions of transfer fees

With Soldado looking ever increasingly like moving towards the exit door. It got me thinking about our transfer policy. Below list the outgoings and incomings for the season the 'magnificent seven' came to Tottenham.

Season 13/14

Paulinho £17,000,000
Nacer Chadli £7,000,000
Roberto Soldado £25,800,000
Etienne Capoue £8,600,000
Christian Eriksen £11,000,000
Erik Lamela £25,800,000
Vlad Chiriches £8,500,000

Total outlay £103.7mil

Steven Caulker £8,000,000
Tom Huddlestone £5,250,000
Clint Dempsey £5,800,000
Scott Parker £2,000,000
Gareth Bale £91,800,000
Massimo Luongo £400,000
Simon Dawkins £500,000
Adam Smith £250,000

Total incomings £120mil

However I have been reading that if Soldado does in fact leave, Valencia will actually only have received around 13mil from his transfer, as a lot of bonuses etc wont have been met to make up the total original fee portrayed by the media.

This got me thinking just how many of our transfers are like this. With Levy looking to keep the fans happy, and portray that we aren't looking to make money from transfers to help fund the stadium.

Then we look on to this summer:

Kieran Trippier £3,500,000
Kevin Wimmer £4,300,000
Toby Alderweireld £11,500,000

So far total outlay of £19.3 mil, outgoings are:

Paulinho £9,000,000
Lewis Holtby £4,600,000
Étienne Capoue £7,000,000
Younès Kaboul £3,000,000
Benjamin Stambouli £6,000,000

Total incoming of £29.3mil

It is obviously quite apparent that for some time now we have spent less than we have received. Even more so,if the players we are signing have these types of clauses and bonuses included in the transfer fee that the media and the club release to the fans. Which is in my eyes all to do with perception and appearance to the wider footballing network.

I am not looking us to live outside of our means by any stretch of the imagination, however I am fed up with the clubs garbage that they feed us about the overall ambitions of the club. It is so obvious, to me, that Levy is continually trying to make a few pound on transfers whilst giving the fans the perception we are aiming for CL football. Which no doubt Levy would love, but in actual fact knows it will be by luck or fluke.

His focus is getting the stadium built, whilst just keeping us in touching distance of the top four, until the stadium is finished. With the new state of the art training facilities completed, Levy knows that once the stadium is
completed,we are prime candidates for a large take over bid. Netting ENIC a tidy profit in the process.

The wages we pay and transfer fees we spend, against those received means we are actually already punching above our weight. Levy knows this, but as I said previously its all about perception. He has to keep us on side whilst continuing to try and grow our brand. I actually wouldn't be surprised is Beckenbeur was paid a back hander to say what he said in the media yesterday after his visit to Hotspurs way.

Thoughts?

Chronic that is half the problem. Always trying to make it appear that we are failing. When we are actually doing rather well, all things considered.

You can add Chiriches £4.5m and we made a couple million on sell on clauses of a couple players.....so all in all we have sold about £35m giving us a surplus right now of at least £15m.

I would hope that the selling of Ade and Soldado, both of which could happen n the next couple days will signal the buying of at least a couple replacements and a DM.

Surely is we made say £10m on Soldado, got rid of Lennon for £5m and Ade for free thats a £30m pot to spend and you'd hope we'd have at least £10m on top to spend (a positive net spend for once ! ). So somewhere in the region of £40m - £45m to spend on three players would be ideal.

I wanted us to get our squad settled early this year, to give Poch a fighting chance. If we struggle against the top teams, we all know Levy will start grinding his Axe come end of Oct/Nov. Which in my eyes will be completely the wrong thing to do.

Ledley's knee surgeon: Football Manager legend - M.S.N = Treble 15

We won't be a regular champions league team for 5-10 years minimum. We'll remain as we are at best. Hence why I'm not looking forward to this season.

Honestly you are the biggest doomonger on the Spurs board, go support another team then if you are not satisfied, Spurs have finished 4th twice in the past half a dozen seasons, so why do you think they are going to have to wait another 5-10 seasons for any success?

Why should I go and support someone else? Because I don't think the same way as you? If so, then why don't you jog on back in time to an era where clubs all spent roughly the same amount, they had squads of 15 players who played 60 games a season. Mug.

Yep, the media are also always so positive about and pro United and Pool, when Gerrard farts in America it is headline news on Scouse Sports News, they do not realise hardly anybody cares.

And at the same time they can not wait to put the boot into Spurs, we need some more ex Spurs men involved instead of the current infestation of former Pool, United and Arsenal Mugs poisoning the media
