Post Mortem

So after our stunning victory, at home, against an understrength Div 2 side, what does everyone think about the team's performance and in particular about the team selection?

My own opinion is that Kenny's experiment of fielding 8 defenseive players fell flat on its face in the first 5 minutes when those 8 defensive players conceded the first goal.

My hope is that Kenny learns from this and in future fields a properly balanced side with all players in their natural positions. As someone on here mentioned last night, Mick got slated for playing players out of position and as far as I'm concerned Kenny deserves the same criticism for the same offence.

If the starting 11 had been:

Ikeme
Iorfa, Stearman, Hause, Golbourne
Henry, Coady, Edwards, McDonald, Ojo
Afobe

I think the scoreline would have been vastly different and they would have been going into Sunday's match with Hull brimming with confidence and with their tails up.
I like Kenny and I think generally, he's is doing a good job, but last night my confidence in him was seriously dented.

The point is we have Henry, rvlp, Wallace and Graham who can operate the right side, why on earth would he try Doherty when it clearly wouldn't have a future.

Heh, all I'm doing is stating what KJ said and the reason he played MD. Aim your bullets at him, not me.

I totally agree cinci, we do have other players who are better suited than MD on the right.

It's a one off move that didn't work out and will probably never happen again.

Whether Jackett wanted Doherty on the pitch as some sort of reward (I doubt he would consider being played out of position in a LC match as a reward) or just because he wanted him to get competitive time under his belt at the start of the season playing him on the left of midfield was a mistake.

As it turned out it was a mistake that didn't cost us anything but that doesn't mean it wasn't a poor decision.

I just don't get some people's attitude towards Jackett. They act as if he could sleep with their wives and they wouldn't bat an eyelid and refuse to criticise a thing he does yet when they finally decide they no longer rate him they'll criticise everything he does and refuse to give him the slightest praise. It really is all or nothing with some people. What on earth is wrong with a bit of balance?

if he gets us to the premier this season he can roger me never mind the wife

And if he doesn't you'll want he sacked which is kinda the point I was making. No middle ground.

don't speak for me, i can speak for myself

i accept a large chunk of middle ground
i will be hoping for a good go at promotion and be disappointed if we aren't top 8
but other than a drop to bottom 8, and then there maybe acceptable reasons, i dont see me wanting jackett out

,,,,,,, at least until october

As for the future of Jackett I don't think promotion this season should be his all or nothing target. But if we don't go up I think he should be hung drawn and quartered at the very least
