The media will ruin young Oxford

Feel sorry for him, did really well against us but now the media have their eye on him the expectation will be too much. This is the problem with this countries media. They find a talented youth and build him up to be something that he may never be and the weight of expectation is now on his shoulders. We have seen it happen at Arsenal with Walcott and Wilshere. Both talented players but now they can't achieve the heights what the media has made them out to be. Now the media have slowly started to knock them. Oxford needs to be handled carefully by the media. Let West Ham do what they need to do. Let him develop at his own pace and not what the media expects.... He deserves the praise he got but lets not make him run before he can walk.

Michael Carrick is world class but england will rather have Parker Barry Delph Milner Gerrard Lampard or even Jones play ahead of him

They're going to hype him up so much. He's already being touted to win the next boat race.

To be honest that kid isn't that good. When englands best midfielder gets snubbed for england then the reality is whilst Hodgson is in charge he will pick his favourites.

Michael Carrick gets slated yet professionals at the top of the game rate him like current players as well as even Wenger himself.
"I would choose Carrick," Wenger said. "He is a quality passer. He could play for Barcelona, he would be perfectly suited to their game.

Agree with Mr Chelsea to a point
In that the media doesn't force players to be plums. Some players get it anyway though. Aside from the "want to play upfront" uproar (in which none of us actually heard THEO demanding anything) Theo has been the model professional. It wasn't his fault he got picked for the WC, then not played.

Media hype forced the managers hand with selection, he in turn took Theo and never played him (because he never wanted him there). He actually got stick for that when he had zero control over any of it. Look at him now, all he's ever done is keep his head down, worked hard and give his all for his club. Yet still has to deal with the media (and large portion of his own fans) giving him a hard time because he's not yet become the next Henry THEY decided he would. Aside from a few that hate him no matter what, almost everybody but Theo has said that about him. Putting him under massive pressure from 16 years old.

Some players act the numpty and bring it on themselves [cough cough] Wilshere. Plenty of others like Walcott do absolutely nothing wrong only to have their career path and subsequent development interfered with by the English media hype machine. Although in Theo's case I think it's been a motivating factor. He seems to enjoy shutting people up after they talk rubbish about him. Breaks other players though.

Gascoigne was unbelievable. Those who think otherwise either support the rivals of who he played for or simply just weren't born when he was playing.

One of England's greatest ever players, easily.

Pretty sure no-one's saying otherwise. It's the assertions that he was "Englands greatest ever midfielder" and "England's only ever World Class player" I was refering to, myself.

ahh, old jug ears

The kn0bhead thought he'd made it, even though it was Kevin Campbell who actually made him look half decent.

He's admitted he made the mistake of leaving too early, perhaps he should teach other young players this, the grass is not always greener!
