will betting shop staff get of their backsides and mark off the non-runners .

Many betting shops have very helpful old men who do it for them. Others have young lads who, when they have lost all their money in the roulette machines take the racing post off the walls so that whether a horse is a non runner or not is the very least of your worries.
You're right though - it shouldn't be hard.

Do they bother any more??? The information re non-runners is all displayed on the magic telly screens which dominate the premises.

Must admit in my local bookies some magic fairy has alwats crossed off the non runners which is lucky as at my bookies with the screens you usually have to wait ages for the non runners to scroll through and then have to quickly read and get all non runners before it scrolls off again

Back every second favourite (or favourite as long as it is odds against) until one wins, doubling your stake each time.......you can't fail but need a big set of nads as the stake can get very large, very quickly.
