Football

Just to try something slightly bizarre, bear with me, I thought we could discuss Football 😀

We are only 2 games into the season but with 2 wins and confidence getting stringer (sorry Nev), how do we assess our players, formation, manager etc.

12 months ago we were riding the crest of a wave coming into the Premier League and for the first 6 games we surprised people, but there was always a risk of " after The Lord Mayors Show" when we started hitting a bad run of results.

How do we feel that our players and manager will cope this season when we have a run of games where we pick up 1 point out of 15 for example?

I was quite pleased with the Ranieri appointment at the time, but I know a lot of people on here and pundits etc questioned the appointment.

I have been quite impressed with his interviews and how he had the " if it ain't broke, don't fix it" attitude. But if it ain't broke you can still improve it.

It will be interesting to see how the rest of the season pans out, anybody changed their predictions of where we will finish this season?

I said 12th-14th and I am standing by that hoping to be proved wrong .

As for the Vardy, NP, RL stuff sh*t happens and opinions are divided but as LCFC supporters we are one

They were really who I was thinking of, not sure if CR has old comrades somewhere he can call upon to fill the void and keep the momentum going in the same vein of form.

They would go and unless they have changed their opinion Stowell and one other would also join NP as they disliked CR.

I predicted we'd finish 8th to 12th but now I'm feeling like we could achieve our best ever finish. I just have a feeling and given Ranieri's history of qualifying for Europe in his first season, I wouldn't bet against it.

I'm very pleased with Ranieri, I didn't think he would change too much and when I heard that he just wanted to add his "Italian tactical way", it instilled me with huge confidence. If we're solid at the back, there's always a goal in us.

It was great to hear Trevor Francis say we were playing like an Italian team but with a frightening amount of pace on the counter. It's obviously evident that Ranieri is making his mark.

I also agree Nev, we are playing better football. That move against Sunderland that started with one touch triangles at left back and ended up with Mahrez putting it over, that was simply class. Francis said "that's as good of a move as you'll see anywhere today". We can really play football.

We're naturally better because they're a year more experienced, so its not fair to credit Ranieri completely, we would have improved if Pearson had been here too. That said, Ranieri is making us better.

As for not choosing his best defenders yet, I think a lot of that is down to the fact that Schlupp has pace and deserves to play so he's keeping Fuchs out. Benalaoune isn't fit but more importantly, keeping the spine the same has meant we've kept the team spirit. Morgan and Huth deserved to be first choice following last season and anything other than that would have been a bad move in my opinion. Morgan is also captain so not surprising he hasn't been dropped for an unfit debutant.

I think we've made some excellent signings and I think we have a squad full of quality and potential. I think this team can go a long way. Not surprising hey ha ha 😂

Not sure about better football, just more of the same for me.

Just watched the review for last year and was played some really good moves then, even in games we didn't get the results in we deserved.

Keep it going and let's get to 40 points ASAP then push on for top half.

Wow Arro, impressive optimism even by your standards - you reckon we'll win the league! Can't see it myself, still trying to get out of relegation fight mode but I hope you're right, at least about which end of the table we'll finish.

Ha ha Nuneaton, I'm confident but not mental. I meant our highest ever PL finish, so 7th and Europe 😉👍

I guessed as much. Even so, 7th is a pretty tall order but if you're anywhere near with that prediction it will be a great season. Here's hoping!

It certainly is a tall order, last time was 40 years ago!
We've only managed 7th or better 7 times in our entire top flight history.

But, you never know, and as you say Nuneaton, here's hoping!

Yeah I know but we've also never had a team as good as this or a manager that has a habit of qualifying teams for Europe in his first season.

I agree that it's a very tall order but does anyone actually really still believe that Southampton, Stoke, Palace, Everton and Swansea have better teams than us? I'm not saying we're better but I believe we're as good and if we're as good then we have as much chance.

We're a very good team in my opinion with a lot of quality that can't even get on the bench never mind in the team. I'm very confident we'll have a good season. This is the most confident I have ever been.
