Berahino alternatives?

With West Brom not playing ball, Berahino is getting a bit expensive. We seem pretty desperate to get him, but who else could we get in?

Charlie Austin is available for £15m, but don't really see him playing with Kane, more of a backup for him.

So, if we're looking at £25m for Berahino are there any realistic options in Europe? Lacazette is probably out of our league, but are there any good strikers in Spain/Germany? Haven't heard any other names than Berahino...

Yeah, I don't necessarily agree about us struggling to find value. Those mentioned above were all good value signings given the current market.

The difference between us and Southampton / Swansea is that our style of play changes so much from coach-to-coach that it is difficult to players to settle and show their best. Swansea and Southampton (Swansea especially) have a clearly defined style of play and buy players that are suited to that approach; in most cases, players who have played in similarly styled teams before. It is no wonder that they then perform on a more consistent basis than those we sign.

I think we have to admit that the likes of N'Jie are the level we're at. We're not going to go out and buy Pedro or Vidal, sadly. We'll have to take a punt on young, unproven players.

We're basically playing Moneyball, it seems to me. Buy young, hope value increases. If they're rubbish, sell at a loss. As they say 'cut your losses short and let your winners run'

What is the problem with the club there's no transparancy and the fans are in the dark, we have no idea of what the budget is so there's a constant moan about not spending, and when we do try and spend then Berahino is too expensive. that's why Harry was ideal because he was willing to take in Saha and Nelson on a free because it was cost effective

The moment the fans come to terms that ENIC is a money making business and that Levy is there to control finances the better it will be, you wonder why he employed so many director of football's because he needs that bridge to cross when dealing with issues of football, he's not a football man.

He's said himself that the agreement with the NFL is the greatest achievement to date as it's not been done in this country before. it should be winning a league cup, getting into the CL, finishing top 5 on a consistent basis, but instead it's a branding deal which will leave a mark on the game itself.

They're there to make money, unless you want to be run by City, or Chelsea then we won't be able to spend £60million a window unless we get £60million back

.... And breath

Agreed just seems a bit weird to go out and spend more on a "Spurs level" player in Berahino than the top teams spend on top players. I know there are mitigating factors for both Pedro and Vidal, but the point remains.

As for N'Jie... I try to watch French footie whenever I can (actually quite a good, competitive, fast-paced league), and Lyon especially, and N'Jie has always impressed me... comparisons to Eto'o are clearly a bit premature but he's definitely got something about him.

Encouraging re. N'Jie. I do hope we don't have a period of 'integration' and just chuck him in. Even if he's lame in both legs he'd do a better job than Lamella.

I'd also like to see Alex Pritchard play in the #10 position, at least in the cups.

Would love to see Pritchard given a chance, Eriksen doesn't merit his place at the minute and Pritchard couldn't do any worse.

Speaking of Ligue 1/Lyon, by the by, Jordan Ferri would be an amazing signing for Spurs. Proper terrier in midfield, and he wouldn't be expensive.

Alternatively, Gueida Fofana is even better when fit, but he's knackered his ankle and hasn't played for upwards of a year. If he gets back to full fitness (January apparently) he'd be an amazing signing - he's basically Yaya Toure-lite.

I still wonder whether Eriksen could be a better central midfielder than ACM/winger. If he has a good, disciplined partner with him, it could work (a la Lampard at Chelsea, or Gerrard at Liverpool).

Doesn't have the drive or tenacity, but does have the passing and vision of a Modric.

Would need to be a midfield 3, with a dedicated DM behind him (Bentaleb?) and a more physical CM alongside (Dembele?).

Could conceivably work though.
