Per Metersacker

BBC sport says we are in advanced talks to sign him. Early hope or certain deal waiting to happen? Can only be a good thing if we get him. Thoughts?

Arseblog reporting on Twitter that L'Equipe's claim that we agreed fee last night is accurate.

To be honest i'd take Titus Bramble at this moment in time just to get some depth!

Is there any news on the fee? Must be around the £7m mark - and Scott Dann is going for less than that, apparently.

Scott Dann has no international experience whilst Mertersacker has 75 caps! Surprised by the instant negativity over this tbh.

Sebastian Squillaci has a load of caps for France, doesn't make him Desailly.

The negativity comes from my opinion that he's probably too slow and static to really deal with Premier League football.

Looks like more red cards for Arsenal coming up..very slow and clumsy.

Not an Arsenal fan but can't help agreeing with those saying Mertesacker is not the answer; he looked a liability in the World Cup to me.

Scott Dann may have no international experience but he's played much more Premier League than this guy. Find it hard to understand why someone like Roger Johnson, who has played every game for the last 2 years in a team with a decent defence, is allowed to go to Wolves and then players like this Mertesacker just walk into the top clubs,

I personally think you'd be better going with his team-mate Sebastian Prödl.

Mertersacker actually has a very good disciplinary record.
Wenger will know he is slow, so obvioulsy he wont play him against fast team, if he can. We can play him vs stoke chelsea etc. People have been crying out for a big CB for ages, now we might get one, everyone is moaning!

================================

This guy has only been booked 10 times and sent off 3 times in his career. If you ask me, that is remarkable for a 26 year old defender.
