I expect De Gea to play his contract out this season with us if the move doesn't go through because he will need to be playing regularly to get the No.1 spot for the Euro 2016 Championship.
He can go for free next year and we can sign a quality replacement. Unlucky Madrid

Now Madrid keep their money, keep Ramos, and sign De Gea next year on a free potentially? Not sure they've lost TOO much. 95% of their matches won't be decided by which keeper they have this season.

I expect him to sit out the season in the stands and miss out on Euro 2016, then move with his tail between his legs.
For me, if his move to RM is definitely off then he has 2 choices. The first is the above scenario. The second is he signs a new contract and commits to United.

There is a real possibility that they will have a transfer ban for the next 2 windows, much like Barca have had. If that happens it very much is RM's loss. And DDG's.

Your option 2 is very stupid as it will unlikely happen. if Madrid get a transfer ban he will move to any club of his choice as a free agent and get a huge sign on bonus. He would be the biggest idiot to commit to United now.
Your suggestion he would is quite silly. He didn't run down his contract so he can change his mind last minute
