Definitely out. Already avoided the ball by moving out of the way then sticks his hand out at the ball which was always missing him.

Australia revert to type - cheats. Steve Smith I'm sure you'll fit right in as an Aussie captain. Very very poor. Australia would have beaten us anyway, no need to cheat to get there.

how can it be cheating if the umpire gave him out according to the laws of the game?
anyway, as others have said, clearly out, and like many i am surprised having seen the footage, because i had seen it referred to as a controversial decision that had somehow sullied the victory...nothing like the bbc to provide a bit of jingoistic nonsense.
morgan tried to explain it as an instinctive reaction to a ball thrown quickly, no time to think etc - which it was - but fending off a bouncer to short leg is an instinctive attempt to prevent the ball from smashing into your face, but you don't get let off because of that.

To be honest, I think the slow motion replay has really muddied the waters on this one - it makes it seems like he had time to consider the situation and make a conscious decision to try and block the ball, whereas when you see in really time it is clear that it is a reflex.
Don't blame the Aussies for the appeal, but given how close Starc was to Stokes when he threw the ball at the stumps, I don't think it was anything but instinctive.
Besides, where is the advantage in blocking the ball deliberately of you're just going to be given out? Thinks it's a poor decision by the umpires more than anything.

Change rules. Allow batsmen to do anything they can to defend their stumps.

i don't think the slow motion muddies it far from it,,,it shows Stokes instinctively take action to protect himself, it so happpens that the instinctive action he took was against the laws of the game....so he was out correct decision, i hate the Aussies, but they got this one right

Rameez Raja on the fact that 4 of the 6 batsmen given out obstructing the field are Pakistani "we like to keep the game interesting"

I dont actually think this rule should apply to the batter unless they are attempting a run.

Looks dodgy in slow motion BUT was the intent there ??

Slow motion looked bad but natural reaction would make u put your arm out despite it not being directed directly at you. Bad decision imo
