England win their 8th Euro qualifying match.
8 games. 8 wins.
More than 3 goals per game average. Conceded just 3. Already qualified.
Certs to be top seeds in France next year.
Got to see their all time scoring record broken in an historic game.
Yet there doesn't seem to be a single happy punter? What gives? Do england fans get no joy from being patriotic and supporting their country? Are club teams full of foreigners more important than the national team?
I don't get it
Let me get this straight

For me, Hodgson is the problem.
If we can't win tournaments then I want to be entertained and I want to see our youngsters developing.
What I don't want to see is a style of football that makes me consider getting off the sofa and doing some cleaning instead.
What's the point in playing this dross if we aren't even going to challenge for trophies?

I suppose this kind of sums it all up doesn;t it?
Most people take pride in representing their country and supporting their nation no matter the situation.
With England is seems there's a perpetual dark cloud hanging over their head. "Why bother competing if we can't win."
There's something in the psyche that doesn't seem English people to appreciate what they have. If somethings too good, there has to be a way to knock it down, so they can feel bad about themselves again. Odd nation.

Not trying to stick up for England, but are you American Bill Minty? If you are , you really shouldn't go calling anywhere else an "odd nation"!

I don't think you actually read what I have written.
Would you like me to explain?

No, I'm not. But if I were it wouldn't take away from the point at hand.
Like i said, I just don't understand the negativity towards their national team and am curious for input. They may not be the most entertaining, they may not represent well at tournament finals, but few international teams do.
Right now, they have qualified, scored loads of goals, seen a landmark moment in Rooney's goals and still its all very ho-hum.

I'll try and explain for a second time.
In my mind, the current England team is not good enough to win anything. I'm fine with that.
What I therefore want to see is a team play with freedom - I want to see plenty of young talent given the chance to flourish in roles that they fulfil for their clubs and I want them to be fearless. I want to be entertained. Isn't that what they're there to do?
Now, there is an alternative. The Greece model.
Play dull, get results and have a chance to win something. I'm fine with that, too.
But under Hodgson we get all the dullness and none of the results. We get players playing in different roles from the ones that they play at club level and we don't get to see young players flourishing.
We have qualified, yet we set up last night in a negative fashion.
Where was the freedom?
If you think that's unfair then so be it, but I don't.

Fair enough Winston, if that how you feel. However, saying you are getting all the dullness and none of the results doesn't ring true, on the back of 8 wins from 8, the best record in Europe.
Aside from that, for me it comes back to supporting your nation through thick and thin. Whether you are going to win something or not, whether you are entertained or not. make the most of what you have and enjoy representing and supporting your country on the world stage. At least that how I feel about my country.

Fair point - but I'm talking results where it really matters.
Our group is hilariously bad and unless Hodgson shows we can compete at the actual tournament, then it's pointless.
Make no mistake - my criticism does not mean I am not supporting my country.
Frankly, it's absurd to imply that I can't criticise the England football team if I want to be considered a loyal supporter.

england have been boring for decades but come tourneys i'd like to see them win. If you offered me four wins over city/liverpool home and away and england getting gubbed in france i would take that though.
Slightly off topic and apologies if this has been done but,i felt it was a shocking decision to allow a wealthy privilidged kid who has access to everything money can buy to lead out England last night. I have always rated Beckham but by letting his access all areas ' kid lead out the team instead of a boy or girl who maybe don't get to do such wonderful things was an own goal.
The publicity machine that they have become was allowed to ride roughshod over more suitable choices.
Sickening.
