Beer downed

So another spinner bites the dust! Another addition to the rough treatment list of McGill, Hogg, Casson, White, McGain, Hauritz, Krezja, Doherty and Smith. Am I missing any one?

Beer was the incumbent, although with one test (in an innings defeat) to his name is that really a solid claim? Meanwhile the lankans will have Herath and Mr Carrom ball Mendis. Lyons will have to out bowl them and lead a failing test nation to victory if he is to be judged as a success. A tougher situation for a young inexerienced spinner is hard to imagine!

As a statement of a new era it feels remarkably like the bad old days! But the new selection panel must be given a chance and I hope Lyons gets three tests minimum before he is judged. Aussie panel, you have made your choice, now let's see you stand by it!

why won't they just admit that there is no better spinner currently in australia than nathan hauritz?

the aussie selectors should swallow their pride, admit they were wrong and select hauritz to play with some help from michael clarke and steve smith

Well he is injured at the moment but if he starts taking shield wickets then they should welcome him back with open arms! Providing that there is a clear need for change, not just a desire to shuffle spinners until a new warne emerges...
