Baffling Team Selection ...

You know for a team in huge need of a win todays team section was very strange indeed and makes me think Sherwood really is loosing the plot or perhaps just desperate. The line up was just bizarre and lopsided and again we failed. Even going 1-0 up i think pretty much all Villa fans knew we wouldn't hold on for a point never mind a defeat. I think we are pretty much gone now regards staying in the league. I cant see us getting a point from the next 3 games which will ultimately leave us cut adrift at the bottom. Whether Sherwood stays or goes i dont see any hope for us this season.

I gave him my backing, but no more, he has to go, I would have taken a draw today, once we had scored and with Villas record of conceding stupid 2nd half goals I would have taken one of the front four off for Sanchez or even Westwood to shore up the midfield, even after they scored the equaliser I would have done this, instead of going for it, sometimes its best to accept a point than nothing at all..

Richardson at LB, please give me a break, unless Amavi was not 100% he should start every game as he looks the best of the Summer signings.

DLo1984 - difficult one for the manager. He's got several players like Clark and Okore who may be an answer, who are now apparently fit, and who he needs to try. Also Amavi who gives him a lot going forwards but seems to have a couple of slips in him a game. Does he stick with the existing players for this match and hope that we score and the defenders don't have one their c**k ups, and does he change the formation yet again and hope that it somehow works. Swansea aren't that great so maybe he decides to give the existing defence another go and not upset things.

We now have a Southampton match which doesn't really matter and then 3 matches we're not expected to get anything out of. Nothing to lose. So I expect big changes; Clark, Okore, Veretout, Sinclair, Gil in. If we don't even I'll start wondering big time. That's if he's here.

Problem with Moyes is I have big doubts as to whether he will come. I think the chances of Randy coughing up meaningful dosh is zilch. Will he come in to rescue a team bumping along near the bottom with a huge job to turn it around and no money to do it? Will other possibilities at the same level, like Laudrup, do it? Very, very doubtful. Lerner thinks in terms of young and cheap managers for whom Villa is bigger than anything they're used to, and who will grab it without looking too hard at the problems. I'd like to be wrong.

TS gets the team selection wrong every game. That is why he should undoubtedly go. I don't know what he sees in certain players, but his team selection is horrible and he plays players who shouldn't even be in the squad let alone starting.

Yesterday he finally dropped Westwood (long long overdue) but brings in Bacuna for him, wtf. Bacuna is awful anyway but playing him at central midfield is suicide. Then persisting with Richards at centre back, when everyone knows his best position is right back as he likes to go forward. Okore is potentially a fantastic centre half, but he doesn't play him. The guy is not young, he's 23 years old and ready to start games for this club. He may have had an injury but he's played in U21 games for 90 minutes and was fully fit for the game yesterday, no excuses for not playing him. Clark is another one. Unfairly dropped for the woefully inadequate Lescott. Clark does have mistakes in his game and can improve, but I'd much rather him over Lescott and also feel he would work well with Okore as they both looked solid when they did play together last season. And the final nail in the coffin was playing the absolutely useless Richardson for another huge young talent Amavi. Amavi may occasionally get caught out defensively as he likes to go forward but he's far superior to Richardson. And yet again Sherwood was proven to be inept as we conceded two goals and the winner came from our left hand side, which not surprisingly was where Richardson was playing!

In midfield Sherwood gets it wrong time and again too. Westwood deserved to be dropped yesterday and shouldn't be starting for us, but he should have brought in Veretout not Bacuna. Sanchez continuously gets overlooked and I know some don't like his passing, but he is a specialist defensive midfielder who has played at the highest level on the the international stage and excelled. He needs to be played strictly as a defensive midfielder to protect the back four, so we stop leaking silly goals.

In terms of selection of forwards, Sherwood is also completely inept. Gestede should only be an impact sub in my opinion, and only when we have two wingers playing who can cross. Currently at Villa there are no wingers with a decent cross on them. We don't have Milner and Young any more who could whip the ball in at pace. Therefore, Gestede is completely anonymous in our team and like playing with 10 men. He doesn't have the skill and pace of Benteke, who was good in the air but also comfortable with ball played into feet or into the channels. Traore is young and raw but exciting and talented and should be playing every week in our team. This should be the team that starts most games (obviously mixed up from time to time with injuries and form):

........................Guzan..........................
Richards......Okore......Clark......Amavi
......................Sanchez........................
................Veretout.......Gana...............
Traore....................................Grealish
........................Ayew............................

I think that is on paper a decent team that is capable of winning matches. Traore's pace on the right is mixed in with Grealish's guile in the left. I believe Grealish would do much better than he has been with better players around him. Ayew has pace and I think is a decent finisher, definitely the best option we have up front at the moment and I would play him there. That central area looks so much better and could boss games. Lana's energy is mixed in with Veretout's passing and technical ability, while Sanchez can spearhead the defence. I would play Sanchez even in home games because the Villa defence needs confidence and Sanchez provides that by closing down and allowing the defence to focus on marking. That defence also looks more promising. I think Okore/Clark would flourish with a number of games together and the full back area looks strong like that. In my opinion that team could win games, goals might still be difficult to come by but I think we'd keep more clean sheets and get some 1-0 wins which I'd take right now. I'd also be tempted to give Ilori a chance at some point, although his inexperience could be a problem.

Hopefully Sherwood goes this week and we get in a manager who knows how to pick the right team. I'm not sure about Moyes, he did great at Everton but hasn't done much since. However, I'd rather we took the risk than stick with Dim Tim any longer. The job really is a poisoned chalice with the current owners, but if Moyes came in and kept us up maybe just maybe we would get sold next summer and the club could start again.

I just want Tim gone, he has brought this on himself with his ridiculous team selections, continuously playing poor players and not knowing how to see out games or get the team playing well for 90 minutes. We cannot carry on like this under such a short-sighted manager. We need someone to come in, inspire the team, and ultimately select the best players in the first eleven who are capable of getting the team enough wins to stay up.

Ditching tim for moyes is no answer. What is the point in a like for like swap! After 1pm today moyes record this season will be the same as tims. Moyes didnt do it with a decent united squad so whats he going change for us.

From the outside looking in Tim has lost the plot with constant changing of his squad. Thinking from his point of view he if he likes to admit it or not has been feeling the pressure since three games ago. VP starts booing and he starts to insert experienced players into the side like Richardson who everyone knows is poor. He needs to stick to his young guns and let them battle through it.

A couple of wins will change everything, i just am not sure where they are coming from yet. Not once this season have we been battered. We arent as bad as our position suggests.

I arent a constant Villa optimist more a realist and not even I can blame Sherwood for this mess. This elementary dump we have been left in needs to be looked at the top of our hierarchy. Net spend 10m and losing our 2 best players. Lerner is cash cowing our club, allowing us to float just above the trap door with minimal spends. Why havent we been sold in the last 4 years we have been on the market. We will spend more in jan than we did in August id presume on fewer players.
