So i read Remi Garde is in pole position to get the job. Total madness in my book, he's managed Lyon who are a proven championship winning team, has a good pedigree BUT this is a total different ball game. We need someone who has experience in trying to keep a team up and in the English Premier League. I was thinking a lot about it last night and Pearson to me is Ideal to take over. What he did at Leicester last season was remarkable, added to the fact he has got teams promoted from the Championship over the years. If we do go down this season which is likely Pearson would be the best manager to lead us back. Can you really see Remi Garde staying if we went down ?? We need stability now, not replacing manager after manager when things go wrong .. GO FOR PEARSON !!!

He will have to be 'en grade' if he joins the vile.
How apt then that 'Prepared' is their motto...that may now mean 'Prepared for the Championship'......
Love your dandy lion chasing the dandelion on the badge.
A dark distant memory for many...
Best of luck in your selection though, after the last few debacles with 'Randy the Learner', it doesn't bode too well, unless you get Rogers who seems to have that right mentality that you need to get steady.
Desperate days ahead by the look of it and more a case of who is worse than you, rather than who you will be better than, come the end of the season

Leicester fan here - 90% of Leicester fans were certainly not up in arms when Pearson left. More like 60% at a push.
He would be good in the short term, he's a fighter and at excels at a challenge, but without his backroom staff, in particular Steve Walsh who uncovered the likes of Mahrez and Vardy, he wouldn't have been anywhere near as successful as he was.
Good manager but no better tactically than Sherwood and what you're seeing now demonstrates that Leicester shouldn't have been stuck at the bottom of the table for so long. It was pearsons poor selections and tactics and trying to play it safe that saw us in that position.
In the end, when it was backs to the wall, he went for it and it paid off, but I wouldn't have him back. He was great for us but I think Villa could do better

BlackStarr - thanks for that. Very useful insight.

Pearson is crazy. Nothing else to add about him.
We need someone to stay for a good number of years and the managers linked don't overwhelm at all. Rodgers just no, couldn't get a decent Liverpool side play well. Remi Garde has been out of the manager game since 2014 and the only decent link is our French players.
We have turned into a small fry club and our prospective management list reflects this. Whoever comes in can't take us further down the table on a positive note.
All the best to whoever takes over.

Garde being out since 2014 is nothing! Pep was out for a year, deliberately. Garde did the same.
Don't know why Laudrup isn't in favour; did a good job at Swans even if he fell out with the owner, and his style would suit the players we bought. He knows what the PL is about.
Moyes is maybe the safest bet but can't see it happening. Rodgers problem was going to a club with "star" players, always difficult for a young manager; think he'd be OK. I'd probably go for Laudrup. But Garde looks an attractive proposition to me, up with the others, unlike the other names which have been mentioned. He's one of the very few, possibly the only, manager who's not done it in the PL who's worth going for.

Alan F Irvine hasn't been mentioned yet...

No think Alan Irvine is more of a Baggies type manager

I think Laudrup would be more of a mistake than Garde. But I'm not sure either of them are suitable for the long term.
Moyes would be the best fit for Villa. I could see him being there for 5 or 6 seasons. Maybe even with relegation this year. Then straight back up. Then top 10 for a good few years.
