Millwall v ROVERS.

I am sorry but I am not enthused to write a long pre match thread after Saturday's woeful display. I have even refused to watch the so called highlights of that game.

There were so many bad performances from experienced players who should know better. I don't know how Ferguson can change things in such a short time especially as Anderson appears to be fighting to be fit for Saturday.

There has to be a complete change of mindset from players who are taking the mickey along with their pay. They should all have put their days wages in a fund to repay those who went to watch and suffered at London Road.

Our defence is almost non existent, our midfield is too bone idle to get back and help and without Keshi we have no one capable of scoring on a consistent basis. Wake up the whole squad and thank you Dickov for nothing, you have left us bereft of even a half decent side.

Finally the draw has been made for the first rounfd of the FA Cup against Stalybridge Celtic or North Ferriby, a game which could be an upset if nothing is done to change things.

Enjoy the game, , I shall still be listening.

Strange isn't it, how professional managers just can't see what it so obvious to the fans on here.

I do think Fergie knows what's wrong Donny P, if you listen to his interviews he is diplomatic but seems to agree that almost everything is wrong. It's how he can solve it that should concern us.

Having seen only the goals the "system" was not obviously at fault for the first. Wellens failed to put enough pace on the touch back to Stuckmann, although you wonder why Stuckmann chose the option in the first place.

It looked like there was a failure to cover the left flank from the free kick which led to the angled shot which passed clean through the massed defence for goal 2, which WAS a system breakdown.

To compound the misery, the Millwall boss did not even seem to think his lot played very well!

There's a lot of work to do and I'm not sure that the squad has the quality that some seem to believe is there. Dickov missed a lot of his summer targets after all and Williams apart, had to just make do with what was left.

Which players do people believe have the necessary quality? A short list I'd say!

Another game though we made a hat full of chances and didn't hit the target!

Hi NY
When we were promoted under SOD some interviewer asked him which position(s) he would seek to strengthen. SOD replied 'all of them if I could'. I'm sure that's what all managers and fans think. Saying get rid of the older players as they are holding us back is fine, but you have got to replace them with something better. GIven time, other players in the existing squad may do this but how much time have you got when you're in the bottom 4? Despite all the predictions about the older players Fergie has been picking them.
Another school of thought on the forums suggests that younger players will be more open to new ideas. Reading what Fergie has said so far I don't think he has any new ideas (what is new in football?), but he wants players who can adapt to changing situations in a game. Sometimes that means the experienced players who have played under many managers and many formations.
If things go well under Fergie the older players will inevitably be replaced, and some will say that they said that should have been done when he first took over. But he is the pro. It's his job and reputation that is on the line. At the moment he seems to see the older players as part of the solution, not part of the problem.

I suppose that "old dogs" and "new tricks" is the familiar cliché here, but it is not a universal truth. As you imply, he has to test the flexibility of individuals now and do so fairly quickly and hope that the necessary funds are available to off-load those who he cannot use.

I can't see there being much available for transfer fees so he's probably going to have to make changes via the loan market or out of contract players. Even so, I'll be very surprised if the team doesn't look very different by the end of the season.
