Elji Kawashima

United are on the verge of signing experienced Japanese goalkeeper Kawashima on a free transfer, with the club awaiting the result of a work permit application.

The 32 year old, capped 72 times by his country, has been without a club since leaving Belgian outfit Standard Liege. The player was at Tannadice yesterday to take in the game, where ironically enough Szromnik came in and played fairly well, so he'll be a little disappointed to see the Japanese player sign.

This is further good news for Arabs this weekend.

Apparently he was training with Leicester last week.

Hooray! He was Japan's starting goalkeeper at the World Cup last year so hopefully has something about him. Zwick on the other hand can't even get ahead of that utter disaster Neuer, so Kawashima should be a step-up.

Better hope this one doesn't get homesick

Sure he'll feel right at home in the Nagasaki of the North.
