Strachan on pundits

'GORDON STRACHAN has criticised former England captain John Terry for his assertion that only elite players make good football pundits with the Scotland manager arguing that just the opposite is true.

Chelsea’s Terry provoked much debate when he stated that criticism from the likes of Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher was acceptable, while other voices, such as that of Robbie Savage, who did not enjoy such a stellar playing career, were not worthy of offering any opinion.

Strachan, who is a regular on television as an enthusiastic pundit, has no time for big names who offer little or no real analysis, and instead rely on what they did as a player....'

the best pundits are ppl who never played footy professionally, but are soley fans

they see the game as the vast majority of us football fans do...as most of us were never pro footy players either

the best football show this country has had was skinner and baddiel fantasy football

much more interesting than the usual ex-pros take on the game

Gordon strachan will lead us to another qualification failure. He has today said in the papers how're expects all his old players to have another crack at qualifying.

Coupled with the statement that he thinks it will be hard to top the group containing England.

How depressing.

And exactly the reason I didn't want his contract renewed

Well that goes without saying.

Having been a top player obviously doesn't guarantee you'll be a good pundit. Having played pro football might be some help. But a list of the best pundits would probably include some former top players, some former not-so-good players and some folk who never played pro football.

As for qualification I have to agree that it will be difficult us to top a group that includes England, though that is not the same as impossible. It should be very possible to get second place, though that doesn't guarantee you a play-off spot....

Mind you, I have a nasty suspicion we won't get first or second place!

Summed up perfectly.

I suspect Terry's comments were aimed at Savage an an individual because he's such an irritating individual who actually offers nothing as a pundit.

"Savage is a tw@t" might have summed it up better then.

It's typical Scotland manager bull shegite. U beat England at Hamden and get beat at Wembley or two draws, then it doesn't matter that we're in the same group. It comes down to results again the other teams.

But as ever d!cks like Strachan are more interested in talking down our chances for his own self preservation.

He effectively said he'll stick with the tried and failed formula when he said Brown will be his captain and he'll stick with the same players who failed in the last campaign.

I mean ffs just what is fookin wrong with Strachan ? Could he not see the weaknesses and failings of that team ? What makes him think they're capable of qualifying from a more a section, where only 1 automatically qualifies, with the same players that couldn't qualify from a group with 2 automatic and 1 playoff place.

This is why we fail campaign after campaign. Because no one is prepared to stick their neck on the line and give some new blood a try. Can we do any worse than the continuous failure we already have ? At the very least it would be great experience for the future
