On November 21st at the Mandalay bay in Las vegas boxing's finest rivalry looks set to add another chapter to it's already enriched history.
The two fighters stepping into the ring will carry the weight of not just there own aspirations but those of there boxing fuelled nations. Miguel Cotto vs Canelo Alvarez,Puerto Rico vs Mexico, two passionate and proud sets of people that when brought together seem to create a combustive yet beautiful display and when these two guys finally touch gloves, the boxing world will hope we get just that.
In boxing, there are few who have stood out in recent times not just as superb fighters but as fighters who can touch the lives of there people. Miguel Cotto came from humble beginnings but he stands here now having captured the hearts and earned the respect of his nation. Those who know boxing know a history lesson isn't needed here. Cottos achievements and accolades are there for all to see and whilst we may live in a time where the promoters and money do a lot of the talking, Cotto came up letting his fists do that. With notable wins over Malignaggi,Mosley,Judah,Margarito and entertaining fights against the two greatest fighters of his era in Pacquiao and Mayweather,
Cotto has been accustomed to taking the tough road. He was never blessed with blinding speed or crushing power but Cotto has created a style that works for him. Of course his bread and butter the left hook has become a effective weapon but his body work, jab, timing and movement have always been something I have been impressed by. Now at perhaps in the winter of his career he looks set to taking centre stage once again and crown another memorable night with win.
Mexico has a habit of feeding the boxing world with fighters that leave us wanting more, fighters that capture our hearts whilst leaving there's out in the ring for all to see and that conveyor belt seems to be continuing the trend. The new golden boy of Mexican boxing is already a household name in his country, with his distinctive hair colour and good looks, he
could be mistaken for being anything but a Mexican fighter but his performances in the ring have put those doubts to bed. Unlike his rival,Canelo is still at the beginning of his journey but you would be mistaken for expecting a green fighter. Having already faced the likes of Floyd Mayweather, Erislandy Lara, Austin Trout and Alfredo Angulo at the age of 25, he has already laid out his intentions of taking on the toughest fighters out there. Armed with youth and strength Canelo is one of the best fighters out there at the moment but his boxing skills have come along way since he got taught a boxing lesson by it's greatest teacher. His body shots, countering ability and improving defensive ability have to be applauded and like his predecessors he seems to be able to withstand damage. His go to shot is the straight right which packs a punch. Whether he goes on to become as great as his Mexican boxing fathers remains to be seen but there is no doubt that when Mexican fighters are given a challenge, they tend to rise up to it.
Miguel Cotto claims to have found a new lease of life under Freddie roach and his recent wins make it difficult to disagree. Cotto seems a lot more fluid and offensive. His movement against Martinez and Geale was phenomenal and the left hook seems to be just as deadly as it was in his prime. Cotto may not physically be the superior fighter here but he has the experience and knowledge that could lead him to victory. I think this could be a 12 rounder which means round fighting will be important. Canelo
will look to use his size and power to get at the smaller man and make no mistake, Cotto is no Lara and Canelo will land shots. Both guys enjoy fighting on the inside but I think both fighters will be aware of each others strengths which could lead to a slow and cagey start. Cotto is a crafty fighter and he can take a punch so he will look to
target Canelos stamina issues. Cotto has to use his movement and footwork to outmanoeuvre Canelo and when he does see openings he needs to work the body. However I think ultimately youth and strength will overcome experience here. Canelo is very strong and is the hungrier fighter. He will also be 165+ on fight night and he could bully Cotto in the close exchanges. Canelo will use his speed and his power
to keep Cotto on the back foot and if he connects he could hurt Cotto but I think he will look to pace himself here and get the decision win. Cotto has looked good in recent times but none of the guys have been as youthful and dangerous as Canelo. I don't expect a knock out but Cotto does cut easy and we could end up seeing a bloody Miguel Cotto at the end of the 12th.
Prediction:
<*> Canelo Alvarez win via UD. <*>

Didn't watch the fight but the result is exactly what I expected.
Can't believe Cotto ever won a middleweight title, he's actually quite small.

Apparently Canelo could barely wait to declare that he'd fight GGG at the weight he picks because he doesn't have to do what GGG as he's a champion.
Farce if he's allowed to get away with it, but I won't be surprised if he does.

Canelo wouldn't want the fight at a catchweight, he'd want it at 155lb. If he's too small to fight legitimately for belts at 160lb he should fack off back down to 154lb. That goes for all fighters.
