Walsh & Shakespeare

I posted a couple of weeks ago asking if people were concerned at the likelihood of us losing our assistant managers when NP gets a new job.

Not sure if anyone has seen the attached. It's suggests the Fulham/NP talks broke down because they couldn't offer Walsh and Shakespeare attractive enough packages vs what they are on at Leicester. It suggests a 100% bonus has been offered to both if we retain PL football this year. As that's now nearly a given, we are effectively offering to double their pay on a loyalty basis - actually a very cute move by the football club.

However, if their is a vein of truth to this article it concerns me greatly. What this tells us is that W&S have an intention to leave, unless NP was certain they would join, why would he turn down a job?

I have to say I'm surprised, I hoped they would feel settled and part of a new team with Claudio. I just don't understand why you would leave a club at the top end of the PL, with great owners and a squad that have built to go to a mid table Championship side with a (potentially) trigger happy chairman if results don't come through.

I'm less concerned about Shakespeare to be honest but still think it would be a loss, the exit of Walsh (and presumably his entire team and scouting network) would be a massive blow.

Sounds like we have priced them out of the Championship market with their contracts but not sure how happy I feel with this situation.

I hope Jon Rudkin is making contingency plans for this eventuality and also hope (with respect!) that NP doesn't get a job any time soon.

No matter what any other club offers, I just don't see Walsh or Shakey leaving. They have jobs at this club regardless of who the manager is and keeping the backroom staff has been a massive factor in our success. I'm sure the owners recognise their importance. It would take an incredible amount of loyalty for either to leave Leicester.

If I was Walsh, I'd want to be at a club that can actually afford and attract decent players and I hope for job security. If I was footballer I'd want to be winning trophies (luckily I've won loads 😃) and if I was a scout, I'd be looking for a job at a club where I could scout quality players that the club could afford and attract, I'd be aiming for a club bigger than Leicester to be fair but he's been fortunate enough to land a job at a club that are growing, have money and are attractive to potential players.

For Shakey, why would he leave Leicester, a Premier League club, with top facilities and where he clearly has an excellent relationship with the players? This must surely be an extremely important factor given how important our work surroundings and colleagues are in terms of our happiness. I'm sure he loves it here and is thanking his lucky stars that he's landed such a fantastic job with job security, something extremely rare for an assistant.

I seriously cannot fathom why either would leave for a Championship club, where they're only going to be until Pearson moves on. There's loyalty and then there's crazy.

Pearson's stock is high right now and is were a Championship Club, I would pay what's asked to get them all to be fair!

To be fair Woodhouse, I don't see anything more than just rumour in that article, or the one linked to it. We'll still only find out the truth once Pearson gets a new job.

Woodhouse is right Nev- Shakey is in the vid smiling along as Vardy makes his speech.

If the article is correct then it looks like their intent is to leave. Im not sure Pearson will get a Prem job though so its going to mean a Championship club putting a lot of money in.

Aero, I agree with all your logic and it makes complete sense. what worries me is that NP must have been a) fairly certain they would go to have held out on the point re their wages and b) fairly intent on taking them with him wherever they go.

Dung - I hope it is rumour but there seems to be a little bit more to it than just speculation, the 100% bonus point seems quite credible and a likely thing done by the club. Just bumping their salary up would be pointless as they'd get additional money upfront each month. I suspect the club have done exactly what is outlined in the article to tie them into that money until 1 June when end of season bonuses are paid.

Fingers crossed.

Look at it another way this is likely to be CR's Last job in England. He could also replace them or some of them when he is firmly established.

NP is relatively young with a chance of managing a number of clubs and is their freind thats why i think they will go when he gets the job. IMO they should be they would not of got this job with LCFC if was not for NP so they should be loyal to him.

Haha. He is a bit light and fluffy!!

You could also look at it like Pearson could have got them the sack too and it wouldn't have had anything to do with them. They're lucky the club kept them and should show loyalty because if it wasn't for the owners, they would be out of a job too.

Just another perspective to consider.
