Reports are surfacing on social media this morning that our beloved ram mascot Lance Corporal Derby was found dead in his pen today. This wonderful animal will be sorely missed at matches. His training was second to none as he was never fazed by the large crowds and noise from the Derby fans. He carried out his duties in a professional manner. Condolences to his handlers. Rest in peace loyal friend. There are no details that I am aware of as to cause of death. A ram can live up to 40 years.

He used to look ace when leading the teams out before Derby v Forest matches.

Indeed. I'm sure there will be another one at some point as I think this one replaced an earlier one but I've no idea how long it takes to train them for public duty. I'm a softy when it comes to animals

RiP Corporal Derby.
I think there is another Ram ready and waiting.
There were 2 at the last open day, pre-season.
Disclaimer - I have consumed a lot of alcohol since then so that may not be a fact.

I've found nothing other than a note on one of the DCFC fan groups from someone knowing someone in the regiment who had apparently posted it on their own timeline. On this occasion I would be happy to look a complete numpty and to find out it's not true.

I heard he died of a broken heart when he found out Spart had slept with all of his missuses.

That is libel, the only ewes I meet are single as guaranteed by the web site plentyofwool.com.

I think taking the 666 out of the linesman and being sent off to the stands hit him harder than we think.
RIP Fat Rammie

As a mark of respect all Derby fans should not eat a lamb tikka or similar for the next week.

Surely it's Goat Tikka we should be avoiding.

The Duke of Devonshire is following tradition of previous Dukes and supply the next LCpl Derby to the Army. His handler is actually a Forest fan. I reckon there needs to be an inquest. Tbf to LCpl Derby he was never the same when the army recruitment officer wouldn't give him his dream to join the Royal Engineers
