Ryan Shawcross

Hello all.

Was watching the game versus Sunderland and although we won, how shaky did we look at the back?! I think those who watched the game will not deny the fact that with better finishing, Sunderland could have scored a couple. (Glad they did not!!)

Now I know we are missing Coquelin, but watching the BFG recently, I have noticed a slackness in defending. And as he slowly but surely begins to decline, I was thinking of potential replacements. Chambers may come good in that role, but Gabriel is more like Koscielny in opposed to Per.

Which brings me to Shawcross. I know we love to hate him after the leg break to Ramsay yadayada but I cant help but notice how tidy a defender he is who rarely puts a foot wrong. Tall and strong and very much no nonsense, pacier than Per and can read the game very well. I'd also say relatively cheap (under 23 million pounds maybe?) If he was inclined, would you guys like to see him at arsenal? Provided of course him and Ramsay dont hate each other...

Chris H, i always thought you were one of the sensible Arsenal posters, not so sure now.

Are you saying that Shawcross's intentions were to break Ramsey's leg?

"Are you saying that Shawcross's intentions were to break Ramsey's leg?"

No, the opposite. I doubt he aimed or intended to break his leg

Also saying that intention doesn't always matter, hence my drink driving example.

The fact that Shawcross was not able to defend against Ramsey does not reflect well on his ability. Ramsey is an above average dribbler but he is not at the level of some of the best our defenders have to face in the Champions League. Whats Shawcross going to do when he faces those players? Break all their legs?

To be fair the incident was a few years ago, both players were very young and both have improved a great deal.

I never get comments like "Shawcross didn't mean to break his leg", nonsensical

Drink drivers don't mean to kill people, either

So that bloke who tackled Luke Shaw must be a cvnt then, after all, he broke his leg

Don't think Shawcross has improved at all. Just take a look at his England performance.

I haven't seen his challenge, but if it was as reckless as the one on Ramsey, then yeah a caaant for sure

I think Shawcross has dramatically improved since his England nightmare.

Ibrahimovic could have done that to many a defender that night.

Point is he did to Shawcross. And he is hardly a standout technically astute English defender. Blood and gusto does not do it in the Champions League.

I think the general consensus of United fans was yes.
