Which ROI Fringe players impressed

Since May 24th the ROI have played 4 matches and won them all .

Starting off with a 5-0 thrashing of NIreland (May 24th) and culminating with a 2-0 win last night over an Italian side who are currently coasting to qualification in their group.

Over those 4 matches we have scored 10 and conceded 0!!! Robbie Keane as if anyone needs reminding of course scored 5 goals (over 3 matches) to become the highest International goalscorer in Ireland and Britain.

So, which of the fringe players which were used over the course of these 4 matches do fellow ROI fans think performed the best.

I would go for the following players. Ward, Mc Shane (never thought i would say that), Foley,Treacy and Cox.

Haven't managed to see all the games but Cox is looking lively and Foley looked decent when I saw him also.

The squad depth is now starting to look very good.....upfront we have Keane, Doyle, Long and Cox to choose from.

Agree with your point on mcshane. Really suprised how well he has performed. Thing is though, they were friendlies. And as always, mcshane will let us down when it matters most.

All in all, i think all the players done well.

Leon Best as well. Big season for Best, Long and Cox next season. Looking forward to seeing how they all got on.
Stokes has burnt his bridges now for Trapatonni. He can forget about ever getting capped as long as Traps remains on as manager.

Stokes is nowhere near the first XI anyway, Celtic won't even play him in the big games. I'd place him about 5th or 6th in the pecking order when you consider we now have Keane, Doyle, Long, Cox, Best and Walters.

The strength in depth of the team is fantastic, but even more impressive to me is the attitude of the players and and their will to win.... this italian article sums up the differences between the two team's well.

So many other international sides lack the organisation that we have under Trappatoni and while our football maybe very simplistic and dull to watch, no one can doubt the effectiveness of Trap's tactics.

Holding a steady backline and midfield, while profiting at the other end when the opposition's defence inevitably self-destructs.

I thought Andrews played excellently last night, not just because he scored. He impressed me against Macedonia as well. Cox did well, but I'd still have him as 5th choice striker behind Keane, Doyle, Long & Walters (if he bother his hoop to show up again). McShane did ok defensively last night, but gave away possesion on numerous occasions. Ward should be first choice LB, O'Dea was brilliant against Italy.

All things considered, it's been an excellent two or so weeks for the boys in Green and we can look forward to two vital games in September with a lot of optimism rather than hope.

McShane still scares the hell out of me. Cox did well, scored goals and you can't ask for more than that. Ward was impressive.
