In my opinion no. I think its oversimplified explanation and simply wouldn't explain how far we have regressed and how we have. Personally I think both the players and the manager got figured out. I believe we planned badly over the past two seasons, and stripped down a talented squad to gain short term benefits.
I feel sympathetic for Mourinho, as he didn't see us playing this badly, and losing this many games. He's also been out of his depth in this poor period, as he's never been a manager who has lost this number of games. He's also not the sort of manager who has ever built a dynasty. He is effective when there is a definite end goal in sight like winning a cup, however to build a dynasty takes something completely different. The Club too has no experience in building such a thing, as for years supporters have been promised the merry go round of managers would end. Therefore it was always going to be improbable both Mourinho and the club would be a perfect mix.
The blame for our regression has to fall on everyone part of the club. Roman has to look at everyone involved in the team, whether they be players or part of the boardroom. Mourinho cannot be held completely responsible, and others should be reflecting on their position in the club, and what they have contributed for our failures.
Firstly the players need to look at themselves. As I stated, I don't believe this to be a act as player power, in fact many of the players have spoken to the media in support of Mourinho. In the past, we have had instances of player power, due to the big personalities conflicting with the manager. However I consider the problem with the team is that there is a lack of personalities. They might not pull in different directions to the manager, however they behave completely indifferent to the results. We needed personalities to get through this period, however the likes of Fabregas, Hazard and Oscar went hiding.
The board too should have backed the Mourinho. Have we not learned from our past mistakes of stagnating after winning league titles? Thanks to Emelano, we have all these quality young players out on loan, going nowhere with their careers, whilst back at the club we have a thin squad, where all the players are simultaneously in bad form.
However lastly lets not forget a lot of the blame has to fall on Mourinho himself. His unbearable behaviour throughout the year must have grated on a lot of people in the club. His criticism of the medical team was frankly embarrassing, and highlighted his lunacy. He swapped and rotated some players, whilst irrationally sticking with others (like Ivanovic), almost as if he was throwing mud at the wall to see if it sticks. He changed the team sheet around, but never did he change the tactics, meaning every time we played, we were the same team out there, just with different faces.
I think the real reason we failed so terribly at building a dynasty, is that we failed to create a team. We have a back four compiling of a CB playing RB, with a 35 year old captain and a right footed left back. That just demonstrates how the back four has been thrown together without any long term thinking. No wonder we are so vulnerable when teams counter attack. This back four is only effective sitting deep, otherwise its too vulnerable. However despite the pace of the wingers in our team, they are ineffective countering teams, as neither Hazard or Willian are direct players. How many times this year have we seen Hazard slow down the counter attack? The Midfield isn't built for countering, and the defence isn't been built for possession. The club built such a miss match of players, no wonder we keep losing. We won last season as we relied on a players performance to pull us through matches. Now, those players no longer perform.
How much of the team's problems right now have been built by the clubs rotation of managers over the years or Mourinho's own short term goals, i'm not sure. One thing is for sure, this weak team will remain over the season, despite his sacking.
An Act of Player Power?

Jose has no one to blame but himself
From blaming Eva, to referees and then the players.
In his 1st season back he didnt win anything but Chelsea were still competitive, this season its been a farce from the same team that won the title a few months ago.
Like you mentioned Jose, is and will always be a short term fix, and nothing has changed.
Great manager but a horrible man and like Arsene said "football will find a way to humble him"
Hes been sacked twice by he's dream club, its ridiculous

Player power, and those fans who saw the signs a while back.
Joint effort, as some fans singing his name were only postponing our chance to rebuild.
Jose was openly slagging the team, and that is so negative, especially as we play another bottom team on Saturday.
Jose made Chelsea a bad team.

Coop
Chelsea have won enough to be more than a joke, mate.
As A fellow bear, I can only assume that the role of the manager is vital, and when Coisty or Jose are doing poorly, it is time for change.
I would go Ray Wilkins, for a temp post..

Not sure who we get in coop, but the Russian calls the shots, or ye go to Siberia.
Ranieri or Pep,long term, perhaps.
Jose became poisonous in recent months, for us.

To create a dynasty you have to keep faith in a manager ! How many a many managers have your joke club had in the last 8 years ?

Thats not the main point of the post.
I'm more looking for where it went wrong for Chelsea and Jose, and how I don't think there is one contributing factor for this car crash of a season.

We're not the only team to sack a manager.
It is rare for a manager to last long in football today. SAF was one of a kind.

Agreed, and it takes a certain kind of manager. One which has probably have a cooler head than Jose
