If LVG stays, should we be worried of panic

buys? He knows he needs to sign players to save his job but the problem is it is very hard to buy quality in January transfer window. In addition, the fact that his eye for players is as strange as his substitution means we may end up with dross players after spending 100mil or so.

No matter how I look at it, his stay doesn't make any sense from football point of view. The people still backing LVG points out that he is 'steadying the ship', but I don't know how he is doing that considering all his buys but one are a waste of money. He also let go players like Rafael, nani and Chica without giving them a chace to shine or properly replacing them. The possession football which is based on 'hold the ball in your half till the opponent fall asleep' has become very hard to watch.

All in all, i don't think we can afford to keep LVG so we can say we are not a sacking club. If we pass on Jose and things didn't workout, I can't see who we can get in the summer to replace LVG.

It's been mentioned here a few times but maybe now is it time to go to the Director of Football and Head Coach model to keep a bit of continuity in there?

Possibly. Would need to be somebody with a strong affiliate to the club though, imo.

Wouldn't it be great if Fergie would take on such a role?

I think LVG would be a good candidate for the role actually.

However, if you are looking for a manager in the SAF mould then probably Mourinho would be the best bet as he could finally have a board who will show patience as well as having the control he wants which he didn't get at Real or Chelsea it seems. Coupled with a big budget it could be his dream scenario.

All conjecture of course. All I want is for us to play well and win again.

Would be ironic when you think Fergie would probably have done his nut if he'd had to deal with someone in that position

Key difference with us and what LVG helped achieve at Barca and Bayern was that he was fortunate that both those clubs had some truly outstanding young talent to bring through which to his credit he did help allow gain experience through the first team.

However much he plays the kids with us the fact is he doesn't have the talent there to do much.

You could say I'm being very impatient with our kids but I don't think any top manager could get that much out of the kids we have. We probably have 3 kids with a lot of potential, 2 of which LVG has sent out on loan and who have arguably regressed since he joined.

I think the kids are decent and you could afford to have one or two (max) in the team to cover etc.

However, they are not as good as the crop we have had in the past.

I think LVGs buys have been decent though and he is maybe doing other things behind the scenes that we are not seeing.

It would be impatient to expect us to challenge for the CL immediately but with what we have we should be nearer the top of a league (points wise) which Leicester are leading with no disrespect to them of course.

Our kids aren't a patch on the kids LVG had at Barca and Bayern and that isn't a dig at LVG in any way, you can only deal with what you have in that respect.

But it's hard to make the Barca and Bayern comparisons as to a reason why we should stick because he simply doesn't have the same talent to work with.

MU82. It's a difficult one and in a way made more difficult by two high profile managers being available.

Perhaps there was a plan but this is now being revised. Our kids aren't as good as our previous crop nor the crop Barca and Bayern have had (World Cup winners there as well).

Tbh out of his buys ADM was a waste and I'm not sure on Rojo but I'm actually quite happy with the rest of them.

I wouldn't trust him with another £100 million if he can't already get the best out of what he's got.

If he does stay (which is as unlikely as VC going to charm school) then he should be given a small budget. See what he can do with £20 million

i dont have an issue with the players he has signed, he has improved the squad on a whole, i dont think anyone can disagree with that.

getting the best out of them is entirely different.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
No he hasn't. How can you even think that? the squad is so threadbare that with a few injuries we resort to wingers playing at fullback, midfielders playing at CB (regularly - not like when Carrick did it once or twice under SAF), Fellaini playing up front.

And it didn't need to be like this.....we could have played Hernandez when Rooney was injured, or Wilson. We could have played Rafael at RB....

And....at the moment I'd honestly rather have Cleverly to Schweinsteiger in my team.
