A great player, a great coach and was a good servant to West Bromwich Albion, Arsenal and his country.
Condolences to the Howe family and a thank you Don for what you gave to football.
(The disconcerting thing is that I remember as a lad watching his silky skills. Wish we had a right back of his quality today)
RIP Don Howe

Remember him playing for WBA at Highbury and knocking Joe Baker over the cinder track and into the sunken enclosure of the East Stand. Then we signed him. A really tough full back, hard as nails. Was there when he broke his leg. Great guy.

many will be surprised to know, especially west bromwich albion, that don played for a wolverhampton team while being signed up at albion. my dad played for and captained the works team at james gibbons.
how it came about i don't know but don played some games as a young teenager for my dads team !
i can remember going with dad to dons house where don told him he couldn't play for gibbons's any more.
a genuine great - but he'd have laughed at you if you'd told him that
