I get what you're saying about the disingenuity regarding 2 mins of an animals life, while those same people didn't care about years of neglect or poor husbandry (to give it the proper term)

Which - if the animal was reared poorly would also cast doubt on its halal status because there are set rules the way an animal should be reared and looked after.

The halal, and I believe kosher practices, do not govern only the slaughter of the animal, but the way the animal is reared.

The issue about reared is that if rearing then there are guidelines in Islam, but if purchasing then you are responsible from point of purchase

This may sound weird but some people will buy from those who rear badly to save the animal from torture. Even if then they slaughter and eat the animal

As I said above in response to alan muslims see stunning s unnecessary suffering caused to the animal, this is why they are anti stunning. Its actually for the welfare of the animal

What if it's proven stunning is more humane?

The most disgusting thing I've ever seen was the Gadhimai festival,where Hindu's slaughter 100's of thousands of animal. I read a few months back that the temples have banned it. Is it out of the question for Muslims and Jews to stop killing unstunned animals?

I saw similar once where they just lined up animals and chopped their heads off

With regards to muslims you have to remember the stunning process is an ''extra'' and tehn teh same process is applied

Also you may not know this but the stun for religious slaughter is on a very low setting so is there any purpose anyway?

This is the thing its not a straight forward debate and my point with teh studies and organisations is they take an element of the process and focus on that

Killing is life. Killing is how living things stay alive. When you catch a virus like HIV or malaria or bacterial infections like pneumonia they don't kill you 'humanely' do they? They drag it out over days or even weeks. In fact, getting your throat sliced is a better way to go, so at least we are more humane than bacteria...
