Not so sure Simon, VR is a premium product with huge potential, although Sony have said they are willing to sell at a loss to promote it's VR vision and already had the expertise and manufacturing to develope VR, so you could be right.
We will know soon enough

Not in Sonys case. Rift can afford to do what it wants, Sony cant. Rift also knows it hardware can only run on top end machines ie the ones were the people have spent 300 - 800 quid on the gpu, but these are the 1%ers. Sony need something that will more or less sell straight away - pricing it almost twice the price of the console will alienate a huge part of their target audience . Sony VR is very much the working mans version, and we also know it doesnt house as much stuff as the rift. Yes it will have a premium price but that will be one that is more or less the same price as the console. Sony cannot afford another ps3, rift can.

Sony have done a great job with PSVR, it stands up very well when compared to oculus, but I take your point, I must admit I wouldn't mind £399, it is the price of a new console, but I believe when people get a chance to see with their own eyes what VR is capable of (not just in gaming) people will want it.
we will see, but 299 Sony will be taking a loss, but they have said they are prepared to do that.

Wouldn't be the first time if they did.
Going to be an interesting year.

Saw this about Amazon (Canadian site) slipping up and releasing the price of the PS4 VR?
Not sure if it's a hoax or genuine, but interesting.
Pricey too!

I call (and pray) its a hoax, too well timed after Mr Luckeys PR nightmare imo to be a coincedence......

It's like any tech and overpriced when it initially launches isn't it?
It really strikes me as something for 2017 in terms of ironing out bugs and we start to see what it's really capable of.

Interesting thanks for posting that Mike, does seem a little coincidental as Simon says, if it does turn out to be that price, I may investigate the other options more too.
I also agree with Melton, this is the techs first baby steps, a lot of the issues will only be seen and resolved once the tech is out there in consumer hands.
Either way nothing is going to stop me enjoying VR, I have waited too long.

I also love these sort of stories, the link trying to sound all knowlegable, but stating at the end it uses a full hd LED display, when it is in fact an OLED dispay.
You would think they could do a little more research before posting.

What makes it even more hilarious, is the fact that it says it is an OLED display on the Amazon site.
