Alli vs Henderson

When it comes to English midfielders these two are looking to push for an England place at the Euros. Obviously Wilshere is in a class of his own, but these two are within the pack hoping to start alongside him in the three man midfield that Hodgson plans, along with the likes of Delph and Barkley.

However, who is the better player?

In terms of where they play, they are slightly different. Henderson, like Delph, prefers to position himself deeper and face play, providing energy and physicality. Whereas Alli, although he can play in the pivot, seems more comfortable higher up the pitch, where he can stretch defences with runs in behind and combine with Kane.

Liverpool fans will arrogantly proclaim their player to be superior, as he is their captain after all, and is six years older than Alli, thus vastly more experienced.

However, looking more closely, they have some similar limitations. Both have quite heavy touches, and both are quite uncomfortable under pressure (compared to a Wilshere, say). However, at just 19, surely Alli is ahead of where Henderson was at that age. Henderson in the 2009/2010 season averaged a shambolic 68% pass completion, which for a central midfielder is embarrassing. Alli, while sloppy in possession himself, has averaged about 77%, and this in a more crowded area of the pitch.

Henderson has refined his game somewhat and has a wider passing range than Alli at the moment, but it is something to consider. Not only this, but Alli is also more skilful, being the better dribbler out of the two and the better improviser (he must have had at least 10 nutmegs this season).

When it comes to the Euros I'd be inclined to start Delph and Barkley alongside Wilshere as International football places a big emphasis on how comfortable you are on the ball, which Henderson isn't hence never having had a good game in an England shirt (feel free to name one if you disagree).

As a Spurs fan I know I wouldn't swap the two. Alli has probably been one of our top 5 performers in the league this season and his ceiling is far higher than the level Henderson is at now.

The potato blight is strong in this one. I've been talking about squad not first 11 throughout the thread. Look at the post that you called me blinkered over, you see the word 'squad', right? Do you see 'first 11 anywhere? No? What point were you trying to make only to agree with me in the end? In any case its the average of players who have made an appearance in the prem for the respective teams.
Certified genuine Nincompoop.

Who cares? Spurs have put together a young and seemingly talented squad and are doing well but probably won't win anything again.

Liverpool have put together a young and seemingly talented squad also and are six points worse off but 1-0 in a semi final and are a draw and a win from a trophy.

Both clubs are looking to challenge the recent status quo and increase their stadium size.

Having a young squad is admirable but as said I think it will count against both clubs this season come the business end.

This is the first decent point you've made provided you can back it up with some proof. I could argue it's your subs that bring down the figure? etc etc.
