Player Ratings vs. Exeter City

So not a great result last night but an acceptable one given the circumstances and team selection. As others have said the young players did well but the senior players were poor but how would you rate the players individually?


Bogdan - 4 - Could do nothing for their first but awful error for their second. Kicking was pretty poor throughout too. Mignolet has nothing to worry about.

Randall - 6 - Exeter targeted us out wide and he was often left exposed but he dug deep and defended well as well as trying to support the attacks.

Ilori - 7 - Thought he was our best defender last night. Sliced one clearance but other than that he dealt with crosses well and looked good in possession. Hope he's not injured given our crisis at CB.

Enrique - 5 - Hasn't played for a year and it showed. Out of position for their first and sluggish throughout. Should have stuck with Instagram.

Smith - 7 - Like Randall he was targeted out wide but at 2-1 down he was one of the few who really looked like getting us back into the game. Got a deserved goal and we'll hopefully see more of him in the future.

Stewart - 6 - Some nice touches in midfield but clearly short of match practice and misplaced a few passes. Would be very surprised if he has a career with us.

Brannagan - 7 - Put in a real shift in midfield and looked better on the ball than Stewart. A few good defensive moments late on too.

Teixeira - 6 - I wanted to give him a 7 but he chose the wrong pass at times and tried a few unnecessary turns and tricks when a simple pass would have sufficed. Think he'll have a career in Spain or Italy where you're allowed more time on the ball.

Kent - 6 - A good first half but faded badly. Showed promise for the future given he's only 19.

Sinclair - 6 - Took his goal well but was largely ineffective and like Kent I thought he faded.

Benteke - 6 - Would have been a 7 if he'd scored that header at 2-1 down but otherwise he was involved in our first goal, lead the line well and held up the ball allowing others to join the attack.


Subs

Chirivella - 5 - Looked a bit like a rabbit in the headlights at first but grew into the game as time wore on. Horribly misplaced a pass when well positioned.

Ojo - 7 - His pace and direct approach changed the game and it was his cross which led to our equaliser. Looks like he's bulked up since I last saw him play and did enough to be given at least another outing from the bench against Arsenal or United if Ibe is still out.

Maguire - 6 - Not on for long but did all that was required playing out of position. Stuck to the basics which was the correct thing to do given the circumstances of the game when he was on threat pitch.
