Playing To Our Limitations

So.. after yesterday, Tuesday looks not so bad. I am firmly in the LVG out brigade but I am starting to waver on the when. Why? Let us use Mike as an example. When we were playing tiki-taka's younger brother taka taka (this means rubbish in swahili), Smalls looks very good. When we play the expansive brand of our nonsense, Smalls suffers almost like... when he used to deputize for either of our dynamic duo of Rio and Vida. It would seem the slow boring game plays to his strength. Fast(er) games, coupled with our 3rd choice full backs messes up our defensive ability as a team and exposes the frailties in our CBs. It would seem LVG may not be the clueless crow we all think he is. Perhaps the one thing that would make his takataka work is a finisher in the mould of an Inzaghi or RvN who is absolutely clinical, not our Cole and Yorke mould of attackers that we so love. I still want him out but I now just care about top 4 and if boring will take us there, just do it!

I think Smalling looks good this season because we are woeful. He is not a calamity but he is definitely WIP. He is good, but with good teams he would struggle. Yes the mid is bad but the only way we know how good our defence was in Fergie's era was because towards the end we really needed them. Our mid has been a problem for very long

Main problem I have with Smalling is he does that week in week out. He doesn't play the ball from set pieces but plays the player.

I dont get it as I see his strength being getting the ball

Smalling left his man for the first goal too. And the penalty was so bad it was embarrassing.

The goal that Fellaini provided an assist for? It was Morgan who left Wijnaldum free as well

You don't need two players on one man. Smalling had him then he didn't. He let us man go. He was partly at fault for that goal. Not much point in arguing otherwise.

He's been our best player this season so a bad game can be forgiven but there's no doubt he had a pretty poor game on Tuesday.

hmm... I thought this was a valid discussion. Some are just here pouncing on Smallings first bad game in a while to bring out their long held grudges against him.

I'm just debating with what Mudd said about the only mistake being the penalty.

smalling has been the best player all season. If he made a mistake vs newcastle...so what? Im sure he knows if he did.

Who are you referring to? Mitrovic or Wijnaldum?

He has won more in the game than most managers and he is far more clued up about football than gobby ignorant fans like you will ever be in your wildest dreams.

I.e. if he is "clueless" then what does that make you? Show us your CV, clever cloggs!
