And there's Villas problem.

Despite being a great club, a big club, the owner has tried to almost balance the books over recent years.

In other words, his aim (and the aim of his lackeys like Fox), has been to keep spending in line with clubs like Southampton, Swansea, Watford and so on.

But that's the wrong hat on the wrong head because Villa should have be aiming to compete with the likes of Everton and Tottenham at the very least.

Your owner really needs to spend or sod off.

Villa's problem hasn't been spending. They've spent LOTS.
Villa's problem has been selling.


That's the way I see it, anyway.

Dead right. Lambert came in with a brief to sell the high earners, or at least those he could do without, and nobody would take them.

Everton and Spurs don't actually have a huge net spend. That's because they've built up a stable squad and so only need to make the odd addition. The problem we have is that a lot of the players bought over the last few years have either been no good or they've moved on. If we're going to get to the more stable position we need it strikes me that Garde is one of the best prospects we've had for a long time to do it.
