Problem is as Plain as the Nose.....

...........on Your Face

It is crystal clear and so is the solution. We simply have too many first team players.

Carson ,Grant, Roos,

Christie, Keogh, Shackell, Warnock, Baird, Pearce, Shotton, Buxton, Hanson, Ssewankambo, Forsyth, Lowe

Thorne, Butterfield, Johnson, Hendrick, Bryson, Hughes, Calero

Martin, Bent, Blackman, Weimann, Russell, Ince, Camara,

TOTAL first team squad – 30.

The consequence is, very few will have a chance to play first team football and the players have no chance of building their career paths (with time ticking rapidly by) and developing the camaraderie needed for true team spirit. Many of the players are competing against each other rather than the opposing team and they have no time to build partnerships and instinctive understanding of what their teammates can best do. Many of the above players would be more effective and happier playing (out on loan or even sold), against Derby’s opponents rather than keeping our bench seats warm.

PC needs to pick, and stick to, his 14 or 15 players, based on his more intimate knowledge of their individual characters, and get loan or transfer deals for the others. The retained players would be more confident and more relaxed in their play to achieve maximum effectiveness and creativity on the pitch. I think it’s significant that the drastic drop in quality of play has come just when 2 additional players have arrived. It seems the notion that increased competition for places automatically brings better performances is basically flawed. This is especially so when the original team can justifiably feel they have achieved much more in terms of league results than any recent combination.

There would have to be adequate clauses allowing their recall and ensuring they don’t play against us but, if playing elsewhere in the Championship they would be effectively playing for Derby by helping to defeat our competitors.

But the greatest benefit would be the much better team spirit that would follow. The big question is - Have we left it too late?

Just hope Carson is back on Monday. Grant has conceded 9 goals in the last 5 games, Carson conceded 13 in 17 games.
I don't feel that questions need to be asked of our defenders. Grant is the weak link. He has been for the last 5 games, he was last season and the season before.
Yes he has made some good saves, he always has done. But he does not command his area, he doesn't come for crosses, his positioning is poor and so is his distribution.
I am not anti Grant, I am pro Carson.

Does anyone know the nature of Carson's injury, how he got it and why it has taken so long to mend?

It's a cracker; it's the way he saves 'em.

I blame my powers of expression. The fact that a team plays with team spirit is more important than the difference between all of our individually, more or less excellent squad. That is what I meant by it doesn't matter who PC selects. I certainly did not mean he could select anybody at any time. IT IS THE TEAM that counts. Playing for DERBY COUNTY as an entity and playing for each other, rather than themselves.

My opinion is, let out more players on loan, sell those who are surplus if we can and make sure the reduced squad gels into the best possible team. I do not doubt the quality of our players. Somebody above dismissed our young players like Hanson, Lowe and Ssewankambo as not being worth considering. We need to nurture them and give them any chance we can

People very quick to jump in the back of players who have had a dip in form.

Hendrick has been in decent form and has suffered from the fact that of the central midfield lot, he's probably the easiest to drop for non footballing reasons, so being in and it of the team isn't helpful.

Russell has had a good season but has dropped off recently. Again he's suffered similar fate to Hendrick - he's easier to drop than Ince. He's created the most goals for us, let's not forget.

Grant is a back up option.

Shotton isn't good enough and neither is Baird but he offers an experienced head across a number of positions.
