Bad start could cost us!

Just saw an interesting article that showed a league table for the last 19 games, half a season. This obviously doesn't include our first 4 games, which was poor with just 3 points from 3 draws.

It has us top of this table, level on points with Leicester on 39 pts, Arsenal have 37 and city only 32! We have the most goals for and the least goals against in this period, by some margin.

Discounting that start, we have been the best in the league, not just on points but goals, defence, consistency. Continue that for the next 15 and who knows what could happen?

Just hope that start doesn't come back to bite us!!

Yes... well this is what I feared from a crowded fixture list:
"Spurs are worried key defender Jan Vertonghen, 28, may have suffered knee-ligament damage which would rule him out for the rest of the season."

Now wot??

Who'd have thought we'd be sweating on news of a vertonghen injury after his shoddy form under AVB and sherwood. But him and Toby have been fantastic and we really don't want him out for a long stretch

Each club challenging for the title can look back and think "if only we won that game" or "if only we scored that penalty" etc... All teams have bad patches and all teams have unlucky games/streaks - if we don't win the league then the first 3 games are just one of a thousand factors you could consider as to why things panned out as they did

If we bothered to get in another striker when Lamela was dodgy as hell and Kane was missing sitters then maybe we wouldn't have had that poor start.

When you compare the points gained this season from the same fixtures as last, we're actually not doing as well as you may think. We were 8 points ahead at one stage, and now we're something like 3 points. Yet we still find ourselves comfortably in 4th and involved in a title race. Somewhat fortunate the top end of the table has been a lot weaker this season.

Some have missed the point of the article

If we are the top side for the 34 games after the first 4, then that will mean we would have won the title had it not been for the bad start, a little different to having a few results dotted around the season
But yeah, it's still ifs and buts I guess
