No way Jose

With the news breaking that Pep will be going to City. 'Many' United fans seem to want Jose as our manager next season. Personally, I really do not want him as he has too much baggage which I could list on for ages.

Furthermore, it seem the hierarchy at United feel the same way of not wanting him. If United wanted Jose he would be our manager already. I think we should keep LVG till the end of the season and just basically tell him to call it day at the end of the season and have an early retirement. (Even if we do miraculously finish in the top 4).

This means we will need a new manager next season if this was to happen. My short-list would be:

Pochettino
Antonio Conte
Allegri
Blanc

I would be happy with any one of these managers next season. All have good experience and the ability to build teams.

Thoughts?
Is there a manager in the list you don't want?
A manager you favour more?
Any other managers we should be looking at?

And the team that won it under LVG had not done so since 1980. And that was their only time.

Hard to take that away from the guy to be honest.
==============

steve mclaren won it with a side that had never won it.

Good for him. I have no issues with that. I certainly would not hold it against him.

Ha I'm not holding anything against lvg, just saying it's not that great an achievement.

Wonder if this announcement will affect City
--------------------------------------------------------------------

It didn't affect the last club Pep joined
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Which is why I asked the question and did not make a definitive statement like some do

How would you define great achievement? Would you belittle SAF winning the Scottish League with Aberdeen?

I would say it's not on a par with winning one of the bigger leagues.
Same with SAF and Aberdeen yes.

As I say, an achievement, but lvgs best days have been long gone for over a decade. Joses have been within that time frame or just over.

Not sure how you can view breaking up the Celtic/Rangers dominance as not a great achievement to be honest. I guess Atletico madrid winning La Liga in 2014 wasn't a great achievement then?

well, to be fair, when SAF won with aberdeen 2 of the previous 4 scottish titles had gone to non old-firm clubs, whereas atletico were the first non RM/barca winners of la liga for a decade (with the current barca team being one of the best club sides of the last 30 years).

I guess we will differ on that one then.

But Aberdeen haven't won the scottish league since ferguson left so that puts the achievement into perspective.

winning the Cup Winners Cup with Aberdeen was an amazing achievement, arguably as big as anything he achieved at United in terms of difficulty

true, i guess the ban on english clubs in europe, decent players going to the old firm, and then sky, changed it forever, and made it virtually impossible for anyone else to compete.

but i had forgotten about paulo's point about the CWC.
