Guardiola: A bridge too far

admin, multi boards please

Pep Guardiola has 69% of winning TROPHIES, more than ANY OTHER manager in world class football

He has experienced the best while a player and was actually pretty decent one too.

He has always benefited from having some of the finest players in the world at his disposals, wherever he has been

Yet, I feel this City squad is no where near any of the ones Pep inherited before joining Bayern or while at Barcelona and therefore I fear this job will be a step too far for him.

This City looks devoid of leadership, whenever Vincent Company doesn't play.

What about Yaya? well, Pep and Yaya have a history from their days at Barcelona.

Yaya could be on his way out. As simple as that. Pep doesn't forget and doesn't shirk from any difficult decisions either.

Will we see a change of squad then? I am sure we will. And it will be a wholesale changes. Not one or two. I think as many as 5-6 players in/out.

How's this going to be handled within the constraints of Uefa Fair play rules is yet to be seen.

I think, while Pep might revitalise football in the premiership with his presence, I am sure he'll soon realise that the brand of football played in the premiership is DIFFERENT from those in Spanish or German league.

Welcome aboard Pep, but I wouldn't be surprised if you left after your second term of in charge.

He won`t be allowed to spend, spend, spend. Man City are already sailing very close to falling foul of the FFP rules again.

I am looking forward to Pep coming to the EPL if only to watch go from looking a young 40 something to a wrinkled old git within two seasons. Fine working in a league where there are only a few serious threats to worry about. I wonder how long it will take him to start accusing refs of bias, or teams of parking the bus?

Just in case anybody needs reminding Barcelona have won La Liga 13 times since 1991, so I make that he has only overseen three title wins, which shows it aint that hard for a team like Barca to win a title in Spain, such is the domination of a two team league.

The point I am trying to make is that whoever is manager of Barcelona, has a good chance of winning multiple titles. Would say Guardiola have been so good had he say managed Espanyol.

Man United had it their own way for a number of years agreed, and would Fergie had been so good if he managed say WBA, but in general the Premiership is a whole lot more competitive than La Liga.

Sandy, it's also true that Guardiola's won 5/6 and heading for 6/7 league titles.

Doubt you'll find many managers with a similar domestic success rate.

His CL record is pretty remarkable too. Start with the fact that he's already won it twice, i.e. just as many as Fergie in his entire career and as Mourinho only in considerably fewer seasons.

Add that his sides have never been beaten before the semifinal stage and have only ever been knocked out by each year's eventual champions, and I'd say that's pretty remarkable regardless of how you cut it.

"promoted a lanky, awkward looking defensive midfielder from the B team "

Looking at City’s team as below.

GK – Hart
Doesn’t need replacing but probably needs a back up
LB – Clichy/Kolarov
RB – Sagna/Zabaleta
We all know Pep likes to attack using full back but all 4 of these players are 30+. They will need something younger.
CB – where do I start
If Kompany doesn’t start, the rest are clowns. Maybe keep Mangala and get a quality CB who can provide a bit of leadership?
DM – Fernando/Fernandinho
Good holding midfields but lacks ball playing ability which Pep likes. Although Macherano improved a lot in one year in terms of ball playing ability so who is to say they wont improve too
CMF – Yaya/Delph
Yaya too old and previous disagreements with pep, watch this space. I have never been convinced with Delph however he could be trained to Pep’s playing style.
AM/Wingers – Navas/Sterling/Iheanacho/Silva/KDB
Navas has been frustrating, Sterling and Iheanacho are young with potential so could be trained to play his style. KDB is quality. Silva is world class but age isn’t on his side.
CF – Aguero/Bony
Aguero is world class but his injuries seems to be taking its toll. Bony is good but no Aguero.
From the list above, there will be some transfers required but maybe not immediately. The whole back 4 needs replacing, maybe 1 or 2 midfielders and maybe a CF

Since 04 there have been 4 La Liga winners.

There have been 3 PL winners in that time.
