Defender commits a soft foul v Striker missing 3 sitters

Yeah lets blame the defender
----------------------------------------------------------------------
He may of had a good game, but a soft foul on the edge of your area in the last minute of ET is not good, and I'd say was comparable to Benteke's misses.

Guess it depends which player you hate more though.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Disagree term, giving away a pen or og would be comparable even putting a striker clean through. Not giv8ng away a debatable fk that far from goal
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Exactly. We still should have defended the fk better too. Plus Benteke should have out game to bed earlier which ended up putting more pressure on defence

All those declaring Sturridge should be sold had their eyes opened tonight. He's a special player and added some much needed composure and class
----

He's been playing for one game don't get carried away. His talent has never been in dispute from any Liverpool fan I am aware of. But for me his commitment has.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I'm perfectly calm. It's the people on here who want him sold who are the hysterical ones. He's a player of genuine quality which we lack and is therefore worth persevering with.

It's actually arguable that a free kick in that position is not much different to a penalty. I'm not arguing that Benteke's misses cost us, but no matter how well Lucas played he still did the same old Lucas trick of fouling a player with his back to goal, who was posing no threat, and giving them a free kick in a position that we concede from over and over.

There are obviously some psychological issues at play with the player. Klopp has made veiled references to pain thresholds, which indicates that something mentally is not right with Studge.

I understand others frustration with him, I have been frustrated myself, but when I see these lists of players posted on here who people think we should be selling in the summer, a lot seem to contain Sturridge, which obviously I don't agree with.

Sturridge scores goals and is arguably our most talented player. To simply discard him would be a massive mistake imo, especially as we currently have a squad of players who are light in genuine quality.

Persevere with him and get him physically fit and mentally right and we already have a top class striker on our books. Letting our best players go has already proven to be our downfall in recent seasons. I see no reason at this juncture for that cycle to continue.

I can see both sides to be honest.

Sturridge is a class footballer - therefore it's a no brainer to keep him and everything else is irrelevant.

But

Sturridge is about our highest paid player and has played about 10% of our games in the last 18 months and continuing to pay him that wage for another 3 years with that record is a very questionable decision. Also from a football viewpoint relying on a player who is always injured is not sensible.

Basically he just needs to stay fit and then it's a non issue, we're happy, he's happy, and Klopp's happy as he will be playing games and scoring and making goals.

Stay fit damnit.

The thing is if sturridge is fit, theres no problems, but if hes injured we wouldnt be able to sell him for a decent fee anyway

Somebody will always pay for ability.

No matter what injuries or mental problems a player has.

We have seen it so many times before that teams pay big money for troubled players.
